Hi guys,

Something we have been kicking around the office. . .

A 100+ page painting guide for A Call to Arms, covering all the major fleets, space debris, tables and 'special' projects.

Our very own Adrian would take you through the steps of painting each fleet quickly, plus give you masterclass lessons, plus perhaps start examining variations - EA squadron markings, different Centauri houses, and so forth.

What do you think?

I would have loved this, a year ago... I've trial & errored my way now so personally I wouldn't need it. But for new players, a great idea!

I like the idea; especially since I always add more and more fleets to my collection... with some space terrain ideas, maybe a little conversion stuff - more a CTA hobby guide than "just" a painting guide, perhaps?

I'm probably in the same boat w/ Burger. There are few fleets that I'm interested in that I need a painting guide on, and our tables, etc are already made.

However, it certainly would be a terrific idea for new players looking at getting some of the more difficult to paint fleets - especially if you feature some alternative schemes for each fleet for people who want to branch out from the norm.

It'd also be good for budding terrain and table makers.

My vote is "All Power to Engines!"

Suppose we also added additional background - for the Centauri Houses, for example, and actually talked about not only their colour schemes, but their histories, tactics, favoured ships, etc. . .

Now you're talking. In fact, you could do better by releasing supplements for the major races with painting guides and alternate colour schemes, more background and tactics and, in some cases - like the Centauri great houses - alternate fleet lists as well...

sounds fun - S+P would be good for it but prob buy a book - eben though I can't paint!!! - Much more likely to do so however if there is cool Fluff and new ships etc - especially for my beloved Shadows and Centauri!

:D

I voted yes please.

For one thing, I know what a paint brush is, and for another, there is nothing with the ACTA logo on it that I do not own.

I voted no - I have no need for a painting guide. However, were you to include some fluff such as the aforementioned Centauri Houses AND give them some unique ship variants, then I'd be on board for a copy. Do the same for variants by Minbari Castes, EA Shipyard/colonies, etc., and you could have a decent series of books that would be worthwhile for ALL players to own.

Yeah, definitely! Promote the hobby side and you're covering the other major part of the game. One other bit I'd like to suggest is conversions - I've tried a couple on ACtA ships (particularly Hunters being sliced and hit by beams) and I think there's fair scope for this too.

Ditto to the the ideas of Houses, EA squadrons, terrain, etc.

Since this would be a new thing.. as a person who only got in to mini's a while ago (a year or so) , what would be really helpful with the painting guide is a "paint guide". Colours are nice and all and yeah I'd love some great tutorials, but knowing which brand paints were used is also key.

Like.. What green is the official Brakiri Green?
What's the "right" Centauri Purple?

[ for both I mean, that you would have seen in the shows / on the fleet boxes I know there are different houses/corps/etc.. ]

I like the idea of fluff+painting guide+rules type articles.

You could introduce a famous cruiser squadron or task force or admiral or house or clan or guild or tribe or whatever, show how to paint/convert it up, and maybe post some ships that already have "refits" on them for uniqueness. Something similiar to the raider article you had a long while back. Great stuff!

I can already paint, so don't really need a guide. I can see the use in it though, especially for newbies, either t the game or miniature painting.

The addition suggestions in the posts sound good but it does sound like a series of articles in S%P unless there is something special in there too.

I think a showcase of the better painters around would actually be a good thing to add as well... There have been some great pictures shown recently and I remember some lurvley Brakiri from a while ago.

Who knows, maybe a guide would promt me to do more than spray my models black...
