Averrunci

Hi there everyone. I want to see if there is any interest out there in a starting a Legend rules game online on RPOL, which I would run once I have a suitable number of players (currently 1).

The game would take place in Rome 51 AD and the characters are the Averrunci, the secret organization and pre-Christian predecessors of the Order of St. Michel. As in Deus Vult, the Averrunci are devoted to the extermination of sorcerers, magic, monsters and foreign influences.

Although similar to Deus Vult in mission goals, the game does not rely on Deus Vult but uses the rules from the Legend core book as well as Roman themed professions and cultures.

Never having done this sort of thing before:

Presume it is not 'live' but text-based as if PBP - or am I wrong? If it accommodates different time zones and the turnaround time isn't too punishing then I could be up for it, can then test the waters for prospective running an Age of Treason online game.

Its text based, and time zones have yet to be a problem, all you need do is make it clear of an expected post rate once the game gets under way and it should be plain sailing. A good rate is one or two post a day, to allow others in the game to read and respond, especially if players are in different time zones (which is the case of all games i run there).

Yes, it runs more like a PBP with the implied problems/challenges. Different time zones is a problem, but that’s also the case if you try to arrange a date when you sit down for, say, 3 hours, and play online “at the table”. Wave comes to mind etc., but I find the PBP approach far more to my liking as concerns my available free time. It’s rather easy to shoot a line during pause, during lunch or what have you.
For applications there is also this thread Legend Online ?

On RPOL, expected Posting Frequency is usually given, typically 1/day.
Combat is slow, of course, and can cause all kinds of confusion because of chronology if you don’t organize yourself well enough.

Old Timer has set up a Legend game on RPOL rather recently
The isle of Valnos.
In that game according to my knowledge there’s two Europeans, one American and the last player I don’t know, which time zone (s)he belongs to. So far, I have not detected any time zone issues, but the game only started on 8th March 2012.
Rurik has also done one The Keep, but had to close it again and ThatGuy is still running strong with his games on RPOL The Ash Hill Orcs (MRQ2/Legend) and RuneQuest MRQ2- Branneron's Black Guard.
So I’d say it works quite well.

Lots of first hand experience of guys who roam this forum :-)

One of the potential players of the game has suggested that and I'll think I will try RPOL. Thanks for the info! With Simulacrum, that would bring the potential number of players to 3. I believe I can handle up to six but not beyond that. If any more of you guys have interest. Come check it out. Ill start putting it together now......

....Well this is pretty easy. The game is called "Averrunci" and I am Jujitsudave on the site. Hope to see you.

Yeah, the site recently got an overhaul, and wow. Yeah, it's pretty awesome (to me) at the moment.

You can load maps, color text for characters, post in line pics (for setting or NPC interactions), but the best new feature is...

Languages.

Yup. You can pick players that pick specific Languages to speak and put them in groups. Then, when something is said in a specific language, everyone that speaks that language can see what was said. Everyone that doesn't speak the specified language just sees a bunch of gibberish.

So Latin, Greek, Egyptian, Aramaic, etc., every player might speak one or two or three of these...and those players might speak amongst themselves- in front of the other players- IC, in game, and the other players not even know about it. So the two Gauls can sit there and talk trash about the other non-Gaulish characters- and the other players will never know. Awesome. You can't even do that at a table.

So yeah, I think RPOL will work well :)

Just thought I'd say that I've hopped over to the RPOL site and made me an account and started a game of my Ancient Stones.

I wish the other two people in this thread who are starting a Legend game well also! (I'm not a fan of playing in Rome so I won't join that Averrunci for that reason and that way I leave the space open to someone who IS interested!)

But yeah - good luck! :)

Well, I for one would love to play in that game. Already joined Old Timer's.
