DC Area (at least the VA side)

Game Parlor (Chantilly, VA)
-No Idea-

They had two boxes of MEA, two Challenger II's and a box of EFTF Infantry yesterday (Friday, the 16th). My son bought the last Type 99 on the shelf as well as some more trees and a new low stone wall set from some manufacturer whose name escapes me at the moment.

Regards,
Larry

But I am disappointed by what appeared to be a serious under-printing of this product. When a distributor such as Alliance can not even cover pre-orders with shipped stock, that's not a good thing. Granted I don't know the whats/whens/wheres/whys but it just strikes me as strange.
Mongoose warned multiple times that if preorders weren't in by November(?) of 2006 that stock was not guaranteed. Preorders after that point were first come first serve.

Even then stock wasn't...err...guaranteed.... MEA units didn't hit stores untill recently

We guaranteed supply for all pre-orders by the November date. The European distributors ordered accordingly. Some others. . . did not. . .

Given, Matt, that apparently the distributors (in the US) weren't offering the wares untill after that date?

Nothing like having a shop owner look at you funny when you've mentioned something about a november deadline.

The distributors in the US, all of them, were offered the same deal as those in Europe, with the November date.

And that is all I can say on the matter.

These would be the same distributors who are too busy doing C.Y.A. damage control by informing their client stores "The game has not been released yet, you'll get your orders as soon as it is." Nice convenient line when one does not have the forsight to order enough product for demand of a niche that has yet to be tapped (Modern era, pre-painted); much less even fulfill their pre-orders!!!

Not sure who at these distributors made these decisions, but I'm sure when their admin types see the bottem line and what potential they missed, there might be a flood of folks updating things on Monster.com, hehe.

My understanding is this is an issue Mongoose did everything in their power to avoid, but it was the old "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" syndrome. In fact, it appears Mongoose not only led them to the water, they put sugar cubes, apples and carrots in hand as well. Oh well. Hopefully the distributors will realize it in time for phase 3 or so, as well as for Starship Troopers Evolution.

Hey pwolf66 Game parlor in VA does have stuff for all faction's. Try their website and see what they have and if they''ll ship.

Must be a new shipment then because last time I was at the Game Parlor in Woodbridge (Saturday) they only had 1 Type 99, 1 box of PLA Infantry, and 2 Challanger IIs. I'll be there tongiht to see what's up.

Shadow, probably not. And given that there aren't hordes earning to have these models (seriously, you'd think with approximately six large military installations in the area you'd hear SOME noise besides the Marines firing their Artillery) in the DC area, I doubt someone at Alliance will get the boot.

I wouldn't count on anyone being out of a job. "That game/product/mini has not been released yet." is an old stand-by for some of these guys. At least they didn't say that Mongoose had gone out of business, as I've heard occasionally happens to smaller publishers...

Honestly, I understand some of the theory behind the distribution system, but when I look at how the industry leaders operate, I wonder that we get anything beyond the next Magic release.

That is the problem in the US - everyone is waiting for the next Magic, and are cautious to an incredible degree for anything new that comes along. Lots of reasons for this, not least the economy and resultant decline in spending power in the US, and the contrast with Europe is stark. This is why BF Evo is plentiful in Europe - distributors leapt on board early on, and made sure they had enough for at least three months of supply. I am afraid our choice was made for us when it came to deciding who had the lion's share of the first wave. . .

My local store, Wexford Hill Hobbies in Kettering, OH is currently sold out and probably won't get any more until the boat arrives from the UK, perhaps in a week or so. They told me their distributor is currently out of stock.

Not that they had any real stock to begin with - they ordered 2 boxes of each - I had preorded 2 usmc & mea inf & only got 1 ea - so much for pre orders

Just systemic of the difficulties - Wexford has a pretty strong mongoose following - imagine those that don't - many local retailers ordered NONE

The FLGS I'm talking about was quite shocked to discover I had picked up multiple copies of each of phase 1 from the other FLGS in town. The one which didn't get any carries quite a large amount of Mongoose product, say 80% of Mongoose's line at any given time is in stock. Kind of bizarre that the store who regularly stocks Mongoose product and has multiple pre-orders, was left out of this one; and the store who carries maybe 40% at any given time got two of each phase 1 unit with nobody having placed a pre-order. They just happened to be sitting on the shelf when I walked in. *shrug*

And to those who say nobody will be canned, well, you folks know the industry better than I do. Of course, if I were a CFO of a distribution company who witnessed a competitor swoop in and take a slice of my distribution of a hot new product, there would be an internal investigation to make the Salem Witch Trials and the Spanish Inquisition look tame.
