Aux Flights and bases

Question on Aux Flights

1. Do you measure ranges from the center of fighter bases as well?

2. Can you mount them on smaller/different bases than the hex base that they come with? We are considering putting them on different bases (not real crazy with the blocky hex base) but didn’t want to do something that might unbalance the game.

Thanks!

Curtis

yup, measure from the centre. of coursr in your own game, you can agree the measuring ettiquete with mates. as for other bases, I don't see any problem as long as they are roughly the same size, otherwise you might gain advantages when mobbing a ship

I get the feeling you are a fighter guy like myself. I agree with Hiffano, as long as the base is roughly the same size, it should work. You could always mount a single fighter to represent the wing on a flight base. They only take one hit anyway and the base is the same size. Plus, you get more bases that way.

I'd never try to that.... Oh, hang on, thats how I have almost filled my Minbari fleets hangers.

Absolutely! :D Its the main reason I got into this. I read a series of books LONG ago called Wing Commander (i think they were based on a computer game but never played it). Since then, the thought of carrier based warfare (read WWII Pacific) has always fascinated me.

But I digress. We will probably mount 4 on a round GW flying base (without the stem). That should accomplish a few things: 1) be about the same size as the hex base 2) be on a round base, thus matching with the rest of the fleet basing 3) and it even has a hole in the middle to measure from.

We have used B5 fighters for other game systems and usually mount them on floral wire so we can get some height to them.

Of course you could PM Timeslip and order these -

the base is the same size as the 1" counters from the box set.

I just wish they had greater survivability, but then if I could be competitive playing the Hydrans in Star Fleet Battles, I guess I could use fighters in ACTA.

Dave I like those clear fighter bases do you have a web address please?

Timeslip doesn't have them up for sale on his website at the moment, so I would just send him a PM and he should be able to get them for you.

As long as all measurement is done forom the same point on a base, and everyone knows which point that is, the choice of the point doesn't really matter.

EDIT : So long as all turning is a pivot about that point.

Our group is using timeslips bases and I myself like them very much. They come with two heights of stems and you can double the amount of fighter stands that come in a package. Very much recommended. Just my opinion.
