Attention The Wolf - Samurai of Legend

Over at the BasicRoleplaying forum someone made a request concerning the tables on pages 39-43 of the Samurai of Legend book.

Can you explain how to use them and how players are supposed to use them to decide which family they are in.

The third and fourth columns don't appear to have any relation to the first two columns for example.

I haven't seen the Legend version of 'Samurai', but the lists are meant to work thus...

First column lists the major clans of Japan. These are groups of families that form influential blocs.

Second column lists families that allied with a clan - ie, part of one. The third column then lists the clan that family belongs to.

Fourth column lists families that have no clan affiliation whatsoever (and can therefore pick and choose allegiances as they see fit).

Fifth column lists 'aspiring' families - those that want to become clans through extending their power and influence. They will be looking to forge alliances with Unallied families and perhaps turn allied families.

As to which family character belong to - its up to the GM and players to establish this as part of the campaign. Ideally, all characters will come from the same clan and even more ideally, the same family.

Loz nails it, since he originally wrote the book - in fact I don't think I had to change anything on those tables at all.

It appears that the layout guy might be the one responsible. Over at BRP.com mention is made of a column on the table that seems to be missing from the Legend book.

Unfortunately this seems to be a recurring issue with MGP products and Legend items in particular. maybe it's time to get another freelancer in to improve these layout issues?

In the document I was given to work from you had:

Clans

Families
Allied Families Allied To Unallied Families Aspiring Families

I haven't seen the print version of LotS but is there a column missing, since this is all I had to work with in the original doc. Ok, looking at the BRP forum - the print version is missing the Clans column?

No, the clans thing/table is there it's just that the explanation isn't clear on how it's supposed to be used, back to Loz's explanation then. The original poster now seems clearer on how things are supposed to work so thanks to Loz and you for helping out.

Ah, yeah there wasn't anything in the document I had from Mongoose which explained how to use the table from what I could see.

Actually strega, according to this post: http://basicroleplaying.com/legend/samurai-legend-out-now-3389/2/#post50475

The Clan column was omitted in the Legend version.

No, the Clan list above the table is there but there's a lack of information on how it interacts with the table and how the table works.

Ah, that's good to know re: the table being there, because that post had me going: huh? (on the BRP forums).

Thanks for letting me know!
