Banded Mongoose
The original LBBs had no art, will Mongoose Traveler have artwork? If so I have a little request.

Can we NOT use Randy Quaid with a blaster as the model for a traveller? I laugh EVERY time I see the cover page of my T-20 book. I'm wondering if he's defending himself from cops while he discharges his blackwater from the RV into the drainage system.

Please, If you need a Mr. Quaid you could have the artist watch Total Recall. :)

Ah, the man and his hunting dog cover from T20. Most of the times I see it are as a thumbnail size image on COTI. I actually don't mind it. It helps to explain the PCs fascination with big guns.

I do hope that they do include artwork. If so, I'd recommend they get in touch with Bryan Gibson. He's one of the best Traveller artists.

I cast yet another vote in favor of Bryan Gibson; not only is he an outstanding artist but he also has a long history of Traveller work.

I'm sure Mongoose Traveller will include artwork. They ain't dumb; they know the value of artwork in an RPG book (look at Conan or Slayer's Guide to Amazonians).

Computer generated art would seem appropriate, but whatever, I'd like to see a definitive art direction, to give the whole product a particular feel, rather than having just a bunch of pretty pictures inserted.

And, as with everything to do with Traveller, the artistic nuance of the game is that of modernity and minimalism.

Shouldn't that read:
"Modernity, minimalism, and militarism." ? You know. Lots of big shooty thing pics ? Gun Porn. Texas tea.

No - although, the original Traveller was very militaristic in it's themes (as is a lot of sci-fi), I do feel that this was a bit of a weakness for the original game, as it limits the scope of the genre.

If anything, I'd say that 'free trade' is a better core theme for the game now, but how you'd represent that artistically is anybody's guess. But save the 'miltary art' for Starship Troopers, please.

Funny, but I never played in a military campaign until after I got MT... we always did troubleshooter or merchant games under CT...

Really, CT supported 4 main Roleplay themes amongst the various supplements:

Merchants
Trouble-shooters/trouble-seekers
Mercenaries
Criminals

TCS crossed over into narrative wargaming.
There wasn't quite enough to really support pirates or explorers in the CT line, but there were some nods that way (AM1 and Adv 1, for example, include exploration themes), and DGP produced excellent support for this theme as well.

It would be really nice if all 6 main themes were represented in the art.

For the record, I was mocking the concept of adding more "gun porn" art, not requesting it.

I read the first posts reference to minimalist as "militarist" , and thought, heck, my subconscious wins again. Really would hate to see Trav overrun with , oh, say art from the mumble mumble gun catalog with character rules type rpg from the 80's.
