I haven't played Traveller since the 80's and we are gearing up to run a campaign in a few weeks. I have a question about armor. More specifically about the descriptions and protection levels. It seems like the default is that armor protects against all kinds of damage unless it specifically says otherwise (ablat and reflect are listed as energy only on the chart). What about something like Jack which says in the description "Jack is better than ordinary clothing or bare skin when defending against blades but is useless against guns."

Do people play taking the flavor text into account? The original rules have almost the exact same wording...

You could use the fluff in your game, but except for ablat and reflec, the armor rating is subtracted from damage received, regardless or the source of damage. Exception: at least one point of damage goes through on a critical (at least 6 more than you needed to hit)
