AOT - Little questions

Guernicus

Mongoose
Hi there, here are some little questions about AOT :

1) Restore Corpse and Summon Ghost are mentioned as divine spells available to Basat priests p90. Restore Corpse also appeared p55 (but Summon Ghost not). Where are these spells defined ? I can't find them neither in oat nor in legend.

2) Same thing for the Donate spell mentioned as a divine spell available to Basat initiates p89 (note also that Donate is not listed p55)

3) What technically makes Alchemy a magical activity ? If I've understood well you don't have to spend any MP to practice alchemy and it don't seems connected to any other sorcery skills. Sounds like a mundane activity for me.

And thanks you again for this extraordinary setting.

Thanks for finding some errors and omissions, which I am happy to correct.

Donate spell is described on Page 56

I'll do a proper write up of Restore Corpse and Summon Ghost, and provide them on an errate/ommissions sheet on the blog

Alchemy - the Alchemist can create stuff that fixes or stores spells, spirits and magical effects, so it is inherently magical. However some things he is capable of making may be mundane, in which case an apothecary could also emulate the work.

Hope this helps, and many thanks for the feedback Guernicus

Oh I missed this one.

This is great. Thanks.

Should have understood that. But it doesn't explain why Alchemy is categorized as Sorcery and not a
stand alone magical activity. Or maybe it is and an Alchemist doesn't need to be a Sorcerer (=to know a least one grimoire ) ? Can we hope to have an Alchemist adventurer on the AOT blog ?

Hope this helps, and many thanks for the feedback Guernicus
You're welcome :-)

From page 60:

Sorcery Trades
Sorcerers do not limit themselves to spell-casting. Enchanting is a vibrant and diverse art, summoning otherworld entities is regarded by many as an essential discipline and the sciences of alchemy and artifice are deeply intertwined with general magical practices. Sorcery is such a diverse field that there are many specialists around, who might call themselves Enchanters, Conjurers, Alchemists, Artificers or Illusionists. They are not necessarily practising a discreet category of magic such as sets Divine and Spirit Magic apart but rather have a clear focus to their skills through which they differentiate themselves from the competition. After all, sorcery is an expensive business, sorcerers have to support themselves through the significant time devoted to study and magical operations, hence they have to make a business of their magic.

Basically, it's roped together with sorcery because of who its practitioners are and what they are trying to do. Alchemy is an art that does not have a discrete set of beliefs or philosophies behind it, it's not a cult. It's something that those interested in the arcane arts generally may dabble in and some indeed will specialise to the point of making a profession of it.

By all means I can drum up an Alchemist character for the blog in the near future.

Thanks you !
This Basat cult looks better and better. And the initiation process described in the core book is awesome .
The treasonous plot gives interesting game opportunities and adds to the understanding of the aot setting. I'm eager to see more in the companion.

One of the font in this document (and previous one from the blog) is not displayed on my ipad. It is correctly displayed on my laptop but you can't select it). The font is the one used for spell titles : for example "Basat's Resurrect Spell (Rank Priest; Ritual; Touch)". Seems it is not or partially only embedded in the pdf file.

I just saved with an updated version of Nitro which says it has fixed a problem with some Adobe fonts (this one is Lithos), let me know if the problem on ipad persists.
