I find that you get far too much out of game chat in a voice game... which makes it DRAG horrendously slow... and it is also massively annoying when you get some joker who decides that he wants to be funny during serious business
A pbp is slow, but if you have committed players who understand that a pbp is slow, then you still get great fun. Sure they have a higher turnover than normal, but it normally works out fine. For instance I have a BSG game which has been running a year (and five missions) where I still have two original players, and a lot of interest every time I ask for new ones.
