Any protocol for "basing" your ships?

I was just wondering if there is any generally accepted standard for basing and labelling the ships?

ie. Do you usually put the label at the bow or at the stern?

And do you usually just label the ship name or would class + number work better for small ships like destroyers?
ex/ Javelin DD-001, Javelin DD-002

I'd assume Cruisers and larger should be named?
ex/ HMAS Hood, HMAS Ajax

Thanks! I just want to get some consistency in what our small group will be doing as we get further into this game.

You can do whatever you want/whatever works for you.

Personally, we name EVERY ship. The base has a label with a flag indicating its nationality, the name, and a hull number for easy reference. (This is our own series of hull numbers, not the actual historical ones.) For example, Yamato might be BB-62, while the Iowa might be BB-63.

The hull numbers help because we put the hull numbers in large font in the top-left corner of the stat cards. When you're sorting through the card file, or looking through the cards in your hand, it makes them much easier to find.

Bu ultimately, its whatever works for you/your group.

There is no official protocol. Our local group has standardized on base widths and putting the tag at the rear of the ship. The tag contains the name of the ship and the class. Some have added a flag to help with ID. The widths are 1/2" for DDs, 3/4" for CL/CAs, and 1" for BC/BB/CVs.

As it stands theres no standard method, Just try and match whoever you are playing against for sizes, but ultimately its...

wait for it ......

Its whatever floats your boat ............ sorry about that !!

What size ships are you using on the bases? 1/6000? 1/3000? as the 1/2" width seems awfully narrow to allow basing + flag/name.

And for labelling I think I'll go with:
Flag + class + Hull# + Name if it fits okay

ex/ FLAG CA-37 HMS Ajax
ex/ FLAG BC-01 HMS Hood

or would it look better as FLAG HMS Hood BC-01 ??

(unless it is a submarine..) :p

HHmm? Anyone actually base and paint up just a snorkel and label it
"Guess who?" :-)

or, conversely, anyone label an empty blue base as a submarine?

If you are using models, use the counters supplied with the game for unspotted ships and submerged submarines.

To base my ships (Navwar) I used the card bases supplied with the game as a guide, and used plasticard to make the bases, asjusting in length to accomdate the ship length

Label wise, I put one on one side with the ship name then on the other side I put some of the simple stats of the ship, makes it easier then looking for stat sheet or in the book, for example

S6/T2 = Speed 6 Turn 2 then T5/A3 = Target 3 Armour 5 so a whole label would look like

S6/T2 T5/A3
Other side of base
Ship name

Have a look at my Italian fleet in the mongoose gallery to get the idea (please bear in mind the fleet was used for playtesting so the stats may have changed in the new suppliment for some Italian ships)

"Idea originaly came from seeing Kpt Kremmens ships"

I'd say do what seems right to you. You can include a flag or stated nationality, ship class, name and hull numbers (if any).

Ship.

I know but "floats your SHIP" doesnt work as a PUN

Everybody has there own way of doing it some people dont like bases but I think it looks better myself.
This is most of my fleet.
