Any objections to doing this to pass around the group?

Not having minis has led me to spend far too much time reading the rulebook, and thinking about tweaks to change how its done. Now everyone knows I don't think the damage values are converted over in the best way they could be (with smaller ships having more damage that larger ships due to having more hull+cargo boxes, ie Federation POL vs Federation FFB, or the Orion SAL having more damage than almost all the NCAs because of the cargo boxes in SFB/FC).

Rather than just complaining about it, I was thinking of redoing some of the ships in the style at the bottom.

Does anyone mind me doing this to pass around Mongoosers/SFBers who want it? I'm not seeking to undermine the official version on sale to the gaming masses, and possession of that book is necessary to use the ships anyway, I'm more looking to do a more detailed version of the ships to give people something more to chew on in terms of variety and tactics.

Here's the Tholian Patrol Corvette redone as an example- the changes I've made are to the damage, including the errata'd traits, and adding the SFB variants in. If I do this as a little project, I'll start with the Tholians and Orions.

Sounds a very interesting project and look forward to reading more :)

I doubt MGP will have issues bsed on past experience (but could be wrong) - hopefully ADB will feel the same :)
 
I questioned Matthew about providing some variants for miniatures that have already been released for Planet Mongoose and didn't get an answer. And I know a long time ago, Jean posted that you can make public official self conversions. :oops:
 
I'll wait for Matt and/or Jean to post and then I'll post Tholians - Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

Did Jean say you're ok to add more ships, or not? If I could I'd add the Tholian DN/DNP, the CPC/PR (non-combat PC variants) and the Tholian POL.

Does anyone have access to Module R8 with the national guard and additional police ships?
 
I think Jean said the odd ship was ok but not mass conversions - I think they felt that would detract from future supplement sales.

I cannot answer for Mongoose how they feel about statted up ships for ships they have not yet done posted elsewhere or house rules ships. I can say that ADB has found there to be confusion among the fans about if those are "official" or not. I know you are on safe ground if they are never posted; I am not sure of the legal grounds if they are posted.

I converted all the FJD, and many of the Klingon Cruiser and Frigate Variants, as well as a lot of the Federation escort variants (exactly why I started the Phaser-G discussion, thanks for all the input folks). But I have to use them in my own basement (in Jeanology) she won't busrt through the door or beam in and take your ship cards.

In my first game AAR you will see photos of some of the old DD's being used in the DDM variant. But we are not supposed to circualte the stats as I understand it.

Game 2 is today, and will only be using officer ACTA-SF cruiser hulls. Can't wait to see how the NCL's work out.

I Believe I am quoting the rules correctly here, but I am not an official Mongoose or ADB rep. So I agree wait to here from Matt or Jean.

Well I think it'll be 20 bajillion years from now that the Tholian Cargo corvette or repair corvette become a priority, so I think I'm ok with them. Also they aren't too likely to get their models (they don't have them in the 2400 range).

The DN/DNP will be one of the Tholian big hitters in the next supplement, so I'll leave that out.

The Tholian Police Cutter is something that may not be seen for years or may never be seen, so I'd add that.

It means the Tholians would have CC, CA, CAP, DD, DDP, PC, PC+, DPC, PPC, PR, CPC and PPC, with a total of four hulls.

It also means that people with 2400 Tholian PCs can use them as CPCs alongside the 2500 line when it gets to the Tholians and ADB might sell a few more.

So if someone has module R8, can they PM me the weapons and arcs, total number of SSD boxes, turn mode, total number of shield boxes, number of hull, tractor, lab, transporter and probe boxes, and the number of marines from the SSD and I'll turn it into an ACTA ship.

Sorry to ask, but my SFB stuff only does up to module R7.
 
Folks, let's not do wholesale conversions, please. When the official ones get done there will be the inevitable, "But I like the other one better and I know the tactics I use and I HATE the new one." That will indeed hurt sales.

What you do around your tabletop is, of course, your own business and no matter how hard you try, SVC, Matthew, and/or I will not beam into your home. (Well, SVC says the transporter in the back room is on the Fritz again, so I'm pretty sure that he won't. :) )
