Any good storage solutions?

I am looking for an inexpensive method to store alot of ships keeping them fairly secure so that they don't get the paint dinged or get the stems broken. Preferably a method that will also travel well in an automobile. Also I want something that doesn't take hours or is painstaking to make if such is required.

Any suggestions?

If you use the ball and socket joints on the supplied bases, you can simply unplug your ships for transportation, leaving the stem intact!

You can convert canvas storage boxes by splitting into compartments with various types of materials (I used felt card back in my youth) - the fabric helps protect the paintwork - you just have to get the size of the compartment right.

Most people I know use fishing / tool boxes (and pack / line the compartments).

I use KR multicases for my B5 ACTA fleets. http://krmulticase.com/ They are reasonably priced storage/transport cases.

Several of us use Ninja Magic adaptors to base our ships. http://www.rattleheadgames.com/catalog/WithHostileIntent-MagneticAdapterSystemProducts.html

For the smaller NA ACTA ships, I use a small secmented box from my local DIY store, with foam to stop damage.

Guess i'm cheap.. I use a clear plastic tub from Hobby Looby, i put 2" foam in the bottom of it. I arrange my models on teh foam so the bases are all around the outside of the foam and the stem and model are on the foam.. the add another 2" piece of foam and repeat.. it's simple, and cheap..

As for the ball joint, i've broken several of them due to alot of demos', so i have found another solution, glue the ball to the connector, but do NOT glue the stem to the the ball.. It gives you a good hole to mount and unmount the stem from and still have stability..

Does anyone actually use Plano tackle boxes for storing fishing tackle?!

I saw a fisherman using one for that very purpose the other day but I pointed out his error and told him he should really be using it for storing miniatures

They look similar to Army Transport cases. I’ve found them to be reasonable here in the states and have been using them for a while.

I've done this but they keep breaking when I try to take them apart so now I just leave them on.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Now I see your post. I might try this on the newer figures.

I use Akro Mills brand plastic organizers.
$5.99 each in the sporting goods section of Wal-mart.

Fill the individual comaprtments with 1 1/2 thick foam, add minis and away we go.
This one has some of my Starline 2400 Klingons in it.
For these, I cut a slot in the foam and slid the stand through it.

For Starline 2500s, I'll simply place the mini on tops of the foam, sans base.
Bases will be attached with rare earth magnets to enable me to switch from Mongoose bases and ACTA to ADB hex bases and Star Fleet Battles / Fed Comm at a moments notice.

My biggest problem I think I have is that the plastic flight bases dont seem to stand up very well to alot of the ultra violence in out action so I prefer to leave them as they are. Just more or less looking for something that will keep the models from suffering paint damage and flight stand damage and will be convinient to transport. Frankly most of the compartmental storage type gear you would find in a sporting goods department would be great only the size and height of alot of the models vary and can be akward. Sure I can get 5 or 6 styles of container but it would be nice to have a universal solution but meh...those things are pretty cheap anyways.
