AntiFighter vs Interceptors question

Mongoose
Situation:

A Ship has Antifighter 1 and is being attacked by a Riva Flight with a Falkosi acting as Escort/Interceptor. How do you resolve the Antifighter roll? Is it against the Riva of the Falkosi?

What is the Ship has Antifighter 2?

I used my Falkosi as Escorts for my Rivas agains the DFrakh a couple weeks ago to great effectiveness. that is what prompted the question

Flights acting as interceptors only shoot down attacks. Anti-fighter is not a weapon, nor an attack, so it cannot be intercepted.

In general, an attack rolls AD, generating hits, and hits are stopped by interceptors. AF don't roll AD, so can't be stopped by interceptors.

Haven't heard of anyone using fighters as inteceptors in the protection of other flights, interesting.

Thanks, that explains it. I picked up the idea after reading the Dilgar War by LC, the link is in DaBoss's Dilgar War Supplement.

It's the same as "on support" isn't it? So a Zorth supporting a Tzymm would be able to act as dogfight interceptor (go out to meet any fighter that tried to dogfight the Tzymm) or act as an interceptor against any standard weapons fired at the Tzymm (although obviously not both in one turn!).

Wasn't there a thread on this a while back ?

I think the official ruling was that fighters can't act as Interceptors (note the capital I) for fighters they are supporting.

Ah, found it: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32432&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=fighters+acting+interceptors

Well, heck I guess when I read the rules it did state that "it may attempt toi shoot down incoming attacks aimed at the ship it is protecting" I assumesd it could if supporting a flight.

Sometimes fighters are ships and sometiems they are not.

Still a good tatic if there are opposing fighters and you want your bombers to survive.
