Anti-Fighter vs Shields

Lets say you have a ship that has the Anti-Fighter Trait. An opponent comes roaring in with a bunch of fighters that do have the Shield Trait.

When rolling for "Anti-Fighter" do you ignore the "Shields" trait on an incoming fighter (that's within the required 2" range) and strictly roll against the fighters Hull rating as normal?

The bottom of PG 28 states: "...Anti-Fighter and Advanced Anti-Fighter traits are not counted as weapons for the purposes of these rules and will not be affected by a ship being Crippled or under SA, nor will they be affected by fighter traits such as Stealth."

Does this mean that if a fighter has Shields (a "trait"), that the Shields are ignored when getting shot at by a ship with AF or AAF? Thus standing a much greater chance of killing it?

thanks all Boomer :D

It depends on whether you are playing basic 2e or P&P.

Under strict 2e, fighter shields don't work against AF, making Shadow fighters approximately useless. One AF hit will kill a fighter.

Under P&P, Shadow fighter shields do work against AF. One AF hit will knock out the shield; you need a second hit, or a follow-up hit from a weapon, to finish the job. (Read the threads discussing the "Sleeping In Light" tournament, in which someone found this out the hard way.)

P&P states that the changes under "Fleet Command" are official changes and additions to the rule book and fleet lists, so whilst I understand your sentiment I'd say that strictly speaking they are now part of "basic 2e" - of course, if you don't have P&P, you won't know that! ;)

Ok thanks much...what I didnt say was that I actually played Necrons vs Star Wars Rebels (yes, we're heretics) based on some variant fleet lists incorporating the Mongoose rules which are far more user friendly than BFG...needless to say it was a hoot...problem is that the Rebels have tons of fighters with shields and they are a bear to bring down...I just found out that the Rebel List actually says the Shields have to be knocked out first even with Anti-fighter ...so disregard.. thanks as always though..

Booms :D
