Anti Fighter question

I was hoping someone could clear up a point for me, since I swear I've seen contradictory answers in the forums.

When making a suicide run with a Dilgar fighter, or a Gaim fighter, do ships get a chance to thin the incoming fighters with AF rolls or not?

I guess I'm just not clear on the wording of the two rules for making the kamikaze attacks and how the timing works. So I'm trying to understand if ships get a chance to shoot you down first or not.

Thanks!

Dilgar fighters hit at the 'Beginning of the attack phase' (p40) and Gaimat the 'end of the movement phase, after all Anti-Fighter dice have been rolled' (p113), so you get AF against both.

I was just confused because in the S&P issue previewing the Gaim Matt said something cryptic about the Gaim hitting whenever they do, "which will lead to some interesting new tactics, I promise."

Wasn't sure what he meant by that, or what the advantage was of the Gaim crashing when they do, as opposed to the Dilgar.
