Another System Generator: As Above So Below

A new release dropped this morning beginning a series of releases on routes and borders.

This am I promoted v0.10.0.1, which is focused on releasing the new Route Manager window and functionality.

Included in this release is:
a) Mixing custom and manual route creation
b) Fully customizable route colors and names and paths
c) Point to Point routes can be set by entering names rather than selecting hexes
d) Point to Point routes include waypoints
e) All routes created provide # legs and a list of destinations

I like how the changes sound but am running into a glitch. When I load the universe, I can type Terra or Capital, but it does not populate the hex number using the point-to-point custom route.

Additionally, watching your video, did you scale back the max jump? I thought you raised it to 20. I thought I saw it capped at 8 in your video, which would stop using Hop 1 again.

Additionally, once I generate a route, I tried to click/double click on the number of segments to get the route list, but nothing happens.

I suspect the number of systems may be causing the issue.

I admit - I did not check the names against the OTU imports. So let me circle again and see if I can patch that quickly.

Can I ask: did you re-import the file or are you using your own previously saved JSON. I will check both but I would like to know what failed for you.
Additionally, watching your video, did you scale back the max jump? I thought you raised it to 20. I thought I saw it capped at 8 in your video, which would stop using Hop 1 again.

OK patched. v0.10.0.2 is up:

1) Route manager works properly with OTU files (issue raised by @Terry Mixon)
2) Density now uses recommended linear distribution (and correct units on the UI) and is measured to the third decimal (issue raised by @Dodo98)

The below were Mongoose updates included in v0.10.0.1 but I did not mention:
1) diameter now calculated to the km and resulting calculations use the new diameter (issues raised by @Dodo98 and @Lurking Grue)
2) hydrographics now calculated to the 1% (issue raised by @Lurking Grue)
3) stellar information (number of starts and their stats) now on the Main Display (issue raised by @Lurking Grue)

OK this week's update has been promoted. v0.10.0.3. This series of updates is all about routes and borders (and bug fixes as always!). Routes finish (mostly) this week and borders in the next release next week.

Here is a list of this week's improvements:
1. **Routes:** Reintroduced increased jump range limit from 6 to 20 (noted by @Terry Mixon)
3. **Mongoose Engine:** Rewrote HZCO deviation formula to use a continuous linear scale (sub-1 orbits scaled ×10) giving physically correct temperature classifications for inner-system worlds (thanks to @Dodo98 )
4. **Routes:** Implemented BTN Trade Route generation (GURPS Far Trader inspired) — computes Basic Trade Number for all world pairs within range, draws routes for pairs meeting Min/Max BTN thresholds, promotes partial-success pairs whose BFS paths share a segment, and enforces no-shared-segment priority between competing BTN route slots (this was for me!)
5. **Routes:** Xboat, Network, and BTN route generators now avoid Red travel zones and X starport worlds as intermediate routing hops (endpoints may still be Red)
6. **Routes:** Added Import Metadata (.xml) and Export Metadata (.xml) buttons for TravellerMap-format sector XML files (requested by mavikfelna at Mongoose Forums)
7. **Export:** Fixed Ix, Ex, and Cx not being populated when exporting a Mongoose-generated sector.
8. **Routes:** Added "Allow Empty Hexes" option to Custom Network and Point-to-Point route generators (requested Spinward Flow at COTI. )
9. **All Engines:** Added freeform **Cluster** field to all systems — displayed in the world info panel below Allegiance, editable inline (up to 10 characters), bulk-assignable via right-click context menu, and filterable in the Filter Control window using the same prefix-match OR logic as Allegiance; persists in JSON saves (requested by @Spinward Flow at COTI)

I'm considering maybe trying to get it to work under GW Basic and then maybe try and update to QBasic (never really tried that either). I have the same article and review that from time to time. There were two types of programmers back then. Those that would have skipped line 1010 and those that would have type it out word for word.

I'd like to go back in time to young Marc, hand him Geir's WBH, and ask him to code that out in BASIC.
 
I really thought I would have the latest release out by now. It was supposed to be easy. The focus was on (1) some tightening in the Mongoose HZCO temperature bands and atmosphere mix formulas with help from @Dodo98's research and (2) some new fancy colorful borders functions.

Adding manual borders via highlighting and right-clicking-> super easy. Done and working.
Reading the border metadata from Travellermap to produce borders that match travellermap -> killing me.

But I have broken the back on the monster and am now going through and nailing loose floorboards on the Imperium borders (there are like 45 different borders!?!). I have not yet looked at the entire Universe that @Terry Mixon uses (I admit I am frightened to do so). But once the Imperium is done I expect the rest will fall in place.

But I expect we are well on our way and hope to have borders complete this week.
 
Hi All,

A new version was uploaded this morning (v0.10.1.3).

Special thanks to @Dodo98, @Terry Mixon, and @mavikfelna for suggestions and feedback.

Updates include:
  1. Routes: Raised Max Empty Jumps cap for Point-to-Point routes from 3 to 10; Custom Network remains capped at 3 (@spinward_flow COTI)
  2. Borders: New Border functionality including Border Window, import borders from metadatafiles or add them manually via right-click context menu. (@Terry Mixon)
  3. Region: Region Data import from TravellerMap metadata XML — parses <Regions> polygon boundaries using the same flood-fill algorithm as borders, assigns region names to each hex's Region (cluster) field, and automatically creates a background-highlight filter rule using the region's defined color (@mavikfelna)
  4. Mongoose Engine: Fixed missing HZCO deviation log entry for temperate (habitable-zone) planets — deviation and table selection are now recorded in the generation log for every planet regardless of temperature band (@Dodo98)
  5. Mongoose Engine: Updated temperature band calculation to match chart on Page 47 (@Dodo98)
  6. Mongoose Engine: Updated atmosphere gas mix for exotic atmospheres to limit gases to reasonable amount (@Dodo98)
Executive Summary of changes:
Borders and Regions can be created, deleted or modified in the program. Even borders and regions imported from the OTU can be adjusted.

A note on this version and the Imperium:
I thought I nailed exactly how Travellermap handles borders, but after hammering what i thought was every single loose floorboard, I still found some edge cases in final testing. Some examples include the New Slavic Solidarity and Reformed Dootchen Estates in the Solomani Sphere. Each have some inaccuracies. I decided to let this release go instead of holding the entire thing up for OTU edge cases. Of course these can be corrected in a few seconds by the user as that is the entire point of the program. I don't really know how much time to spend on these going forward (especially as they can be fixed easily). As always feedback is appreciated.

Happy Monday everybody. New Release Day!

v0.10.2.1 was dropped this afternoon.

Thank you again to @Dodo98 and @Terry Mixon for taking time to test and provide feedback.

Here are the key new features and fixes:
1. Better OTU borders - OTU imported borders are more accurate.
2. Border fills available - checkbox in the settings to turn them off and on
3. Improved Import the Universe script - it is now a faster process
4. Download Route Details - a download icon appears in the routes menu to download the systems in the route (still being improved - you might need to open and close the route menu to see download options for new routes)
5. Mongoose Engine Fixes and Upgrades:
- Fixed bug missing diameter and mass for planets > size 9
- Fixed bug displaying TL > F as 10
- Improvement: planetary eccentricity calculation updated to match WBH
- Improvement: now use optional rules to incorporate Hill Sphere calculation in Moon generation calculation
- Improvement: atmosphere generation now incorporates optional gravity DMs
