nukes are legal in the Babylon 5 universe aren't they?

Are they? Not sure ? SO you can Nuke the planet to bits but not massdrive it - how ood !

Yeah I was trying to say (badly)is it a bit like MAD in that you can have the weapons but you would of course never use them unless they were used against you?
just wondered? :)

Strange how no one complained about Sheriden bombing Zhadum - all those dead Shadow women and children(?) nuked/? :D Although maybe they eat their mothers like some spiders - not sure?

Nukes in space dont cause as much damage as you might think... no blast wave.

nukes on planets i have only seen twice on the show, on Z`Ha`Dum and on Centauri Prime; Londo detonates 3 nukes on the island of Selene to destroy the Shadows based there.

.

really? I didn't know that - how come - don't you get a energy wave from the blast?

space is so full of radiation to begin with that ships have to deal with it all day long... a nuke going off wont make much difference unless you are close to it and heat doesn`t move well through a vacum either.

Sheridan nuking the Black Star is a good example, even at close range the nuclear device only took a big chunk out of one fin and it required the second one to actually finish off the vessel.

a nuke going off in an atmosphere gives you one hell of a shock wave and thermal blast, which is the bit that causes the damage down here.

all the radiation is just a byproduct of the reaction, rediation poisioning is just the nasty icing on the cake so to speak.

Makes you wonder why energy mines have such a large radius, but point blank blasts can cause damage, and a direct hit would probably destroy a ship.

Indeed, but with no atmosphere or other matter there is no shock wave.

And despite what Star Trek VI and Star Wars Ep IV Special Edition and later woud have us believe, the energy wave would be spherical not annular.

energy mines appear to be a more refined technology than a simple nuke, either way i dont want to be on the recieving end.

how come there is no shock wave is because as space is a vaccuum there is no pressure wave from the air, which is what causes a shockwave on Earth
