Alternative Fighter Bases

Proiteus

Mongoose
I'm looking for suggestions on alternative fighter bases mainly because of two things: 1. I'm not that fond of the original bases and 2. I'd like to double my Vorlon fighter bases by dividing them in the squadrons of 3?

Anyone got any suggestions on what I could use?

I bought 400 plastic counters off Flee-Bay a while back for about a fiver. 25mm by 5mm thick.

I got them from these guys, but you may have to send them an e-mail asking if they have the blue/red sided ones in stock. These are slightly thicker, so will better hold wire posts.

Example.. Still work in progress..

Alternatively these guys do thick counters, but only sell by the 1000.

I use 1inch square Litko wooden bases. Spyar them black and then drill 3 holes in them and mount the fighters on them. They are the same size as the counters, so there should be no issues at tournaments.

If timeslip is making bases, he still owes me bases from over a year ago. Can't be reached at that site, at least if you are trying to get product from him. As far as I know he is out of business and with my money and no refund.

I ordered 100 1" plastic hex bases from Litko Aerosystems for $20. The reason I chose them was because they fit the 1" hex metal bases I found that I want to use to glue to the bottom since my carrying trays are magnetic. The 1" hex is a little smaller than the Mongoose ones and I am mounting 3 fighters per base at opposing corners. This way they look right if I'm playing vs someone who has the Mongoose ones, but they don't look inappropriate with only 3 fighters each.

Well I've got several of the 25mm round bases from Warhammer 40,000 I could use, but I was unsure of how strict tournments are on unoffical base sizes?

Besides I feel that the offical bases are two cluttered but mainly because I heard swarms of Vorlon fighters are considered cheesy which is why I want to double my fighter bases!

Admiral Phlop:

Really? I'll get on it, I may have a few contacts left that can get a hold of him locally in Chicago. No promises, but I'll see what I can do.

As a follow-up, I just based these Sentris today so I've yet to undercoat/paint them, but you get the idea what the configuration looks like:

So long as you don't make them smaller than the existing counters, you will be fine. Making them small enough so that you can fit more around ship bases is a no-no, otherwise tourney players are pretty easy going.

I used triangle tokens (From the Flames of war game) from GF9 on a small gw flying stand. I got the tokens direct, as blanks.

How'd you do it? Green stuff the vacant sockets?

No, I bought actual 1" hex tokens from Litko and drilled three 1/8" holes in them. Then I glued a metal 1" hex to the bottom so I can store them in a case with magnetic sheet on the bottom.

BTW, I like the FoW token version Banichi did. Looks really cool, though I think I would have painted the bases black myself ;-).
