Alternate Ship Computer Models

This is much like my thing about TMB's bioscanners, except applied to the computers in High Guard. It's not so much as I think they're horrible, it's that I think they could've been done just a bit differently. Namely, I disliked the fact that all computers over model/3 were automatically core computers; to speak to that, I rewrote the computer progression a bit so that a 1000 ton vessel could have a model/7 computer (which will be useful when I write up my MGT take on the Kinunir) - specifically, I took the Core Computer concept and made it an option.

Alternate MGT Ship Computers

Model/1: tech level 7, rating 5 (or 15), 30000 credits.
Model/2: tech level 8, rating 10 (20), 160000 credits.
Model/3: tech level 9, rating 15 (25), 2 million credits.
Model/4: tech level 10, rating 20 (30), 5 million credits.
Model/5: tech level 11, rating 25 (35), 7 million credits.
Model/6: tech level 12, rating 30 (40), 10 million credits.
Model/7: tech level 13, rating 35 (45), 15 million credits.
Model/8: tech level 14, rating 40 (50), 25 million credits.
Model/9: tech level 15, rating 45 (60), 35 million credits.

Standard options:
Model/bis: this option allows the computer to be specialized for jumps of one rating higher than its model number; it increases the Rating by 5 for this purpose, but may not be used for ships of Model/6 or higher; this increases the cost of the computer by 50%.
Fiber-optic (fib): This option hardens the computer against electromagnetic pulses, lessening or negating such effects. The version which lessens EMP increases the cost by 25% while the version negating the effects increases the cost by 50%.
Core computer: The core computer is a supercomputer which is used as a central computer by space stations, large planetside installations and capital ships. It increases rating by 2.5 and doubles cost but it may only by be used on a ship of 10000 tons or greater (or a space station of 2000 tons or greater) and a computer of model/4 or better. Note that a stationary/planetside building computer with this option can be of any size.

What prevents it from being used on say a ship of 9,000 tons?

Only my view that capital ships begin at 10000 tons and not at 5000 tons. :P

There could be some leeway, say that 9000 ton vessel could use a lower- or middle-end core computer.

2,001+ ton military ships are capital ships in High Guard...

But what would actually prevent a smaller non capital ship from using it?

Nothing, except personal preference. (Yes, that is actually meant to answer your question.)

That and my dislike of MGT's HG starting capital ships at 2001 tons instead of 10000 tons.
