Aldershot gaming club ACTA game this Sunday

The Adster may tip up and if I get my headlight sorted I guess I'll turn up for a few!
Besides I feel the need to kick but with EA, early just so's you all know when you've been tangoed!

Cheers for the directions Tank - made it back home in doublequick time! (ended up going down the A32 to fareham, mind).

Thanks to Adam and my other opponent for games - the Tinashis and Tinashi variants did their job today!

Game 1: Annihilation Minbari vs. Centauri

Tinashi + Tinashi + Teshlan vs. Corvan, Razik, 2x Darkner, 2x Prefect and a Sullust

Minbari wiped out all but the Corvan (tac withdrawal) for no loss (both Tinashis down by about 1/2 each). Bad luck on stealth dice for Adam on that round.

Game 2: Assassination, Minbari vs. Minbari

Tinashi + 3 x Ashinata (me) vs. Sharoos + Leshath

Two Ashinatas lost for a Leshath and Sharoos killed.

yay some one got home from my directions (sort of)

Well me and hash had just the longest 5 pt raid ever!

Hash Centauri:
2 x Prefect (squadroned)
2 x Elutarian (squadroned)
2 x Maximus

Tank Early EA:
1 x Nova
1 x Olympus Gunship
2 x Sagitarrius (Flash Missiles)
3 x Artemis (Squadroned)
1 x Olympus Corvette

I cant even begin to say what the game was like lots of crits, lots of misses, lots of failed come about rolls but generally fun for me and Hash even tho it went all the way to turn 10 with me having at the end of it:
1 crippled Nova
1 Sagittarius
1 Olympus
1 Artemis
and a single flight of fighters

Was good to see everyone and would have been fun to play one of the 3!!!! Minbari fleets!

Cheers guys for coming over sunday

We'll have to do it again sometime

I'll send you (tank) a pm about Milton Keynes
cheers
TGT

Lessons learned from Aldershot gaming meet:

Everyone loves Minbari (aside from Adam). 3/6 players prefer them!

Okay, stealth isn't all that bad - but you /can/ (and will) get it down to 1+

Never CAF on a Tinashi - they might take it personally

Tank has somehow developed dice which obey voice commands

AA Routeplanner is really, really stupid...

Course of Events:

Each player had four 5pt Raid fleet lists for one race (what one you used was decided randomly)

Tank: Early Era EA Cheese Fleet
Ad: Centauri
Hash: Centauri
Alexb83: Minbari
TGT: Minbari
philogara: Minbari

We um intended to play a tourney but as it was, Tank and I got distracted by our epic 5pt Raid bout so the others ended up playing two games each for our one.

They finished off with a 1pt Battle for the mystery prize...(which turned out to be not very good, but I did get it for free with something else!)

Pics of the event (and the mystery prize) to follow...

P.S. Actually we were thinking of running a tourney at the same venue (Aldershot, Hampshire) but this could only run on a Sunday and would be limited to 2pm - 8pm, does this hold much appeal? If so I will try to organise...

P.P.S. Good to meet both Alex and TGT again...and long time no see Phil!

Indeedy, it was good fun, even the game where my Sharoos and Leshath spent most of it on -2AD - a particular pisser for Sharoos as that's its side and rear neutron lasers out of the game.

Cheers all, and especially Hash for the mystery prize :)

It wasn't all bad - you did manage to carve an Ashinata in half on turn one :) But yeah - Sharoos suffers a bit when it takes weapon crits, though not as much as a Teshlan would. I'll extend my other post on SFOS minbari to cover the war variants...

I think the Sharlin has to be the hands-down winner of the Minbo war PL selection.

Has a nice ring to it and 3 games (1hr 30min) might not be too bad as long as we could quickly get started and have 15 minute breaks

Assemble 2:00
GAME 1 2:30
Break
GAME 2 4:15
Break
GAME 3 6:30
Prizes
Finnish at 8:00

is that right?

We could've pushed for a third game yesterday easily, it was only a couple of us wanting to get away early that stopped it - lucky thing too, as apparently the multistory I was parked in closed around the 7pm mark?

Anyways, parking at the club it would be no problem, espcially now I know the quicker route home.

Could work, just need to be ruthless on those timings! (chess clocks for Hash and Tank?).

Yep we could have those no problem

We'd need 6' by 4' tables though, as I think most people wouldn't want to be crammed into 4' by 4'. Although i didn't think it was a disadvantage and it would mean that 1hr and half might be enough time.

If it was just a £1 for entry to the club then we could either charge £3 and get some decent prizes, or £5 and retire.

Was there more room elsewhere?

There is the second room although that's normally roleplayers - I reckon you could five 6 x 4 tables in one of the rooms and probably the same amount in the other easily (maybe 8 in each room as a push) for a total tourney size of 20 - 32 players (although the upper end is pushing it!)

I would quite like to try a tourney that wasn't 5pt raid (I was thinking either 1pt War or 1pt Battle (allowing the full breakdown of points as per armageddon naturally!) which would still allow player to field a few ships but would keep games comfortably within the 1 - 1.5 hour limit.)

I will make some enquiries at the club to see if we can pick a good date (that means we may have the club to ourselves or even if its possible to get the club for a Saturday session)

Hash.

1 pt WAR Sounds interesting...I think we should ask players to do three - four fleets and randomly face off as we did for our second game.
Do you really think we could get a game in in 1hr 30?

And as a tourney rule for the EA players the Warlock would be back to WAR level???

I have played a 2 point War that was 'over' in about 2 - 2 1/2 hours. (Bin'Tak, G'Quan, Dag'Kar, Sho'Kos, Ka'Toc Vs. 2x Omega, 2x Hyperion, 1x Nova)

As to the breakdowns, 2 Battle is probably better then 1 War, as you loose nothing going up PLs, but gain more versatility going down the PLs.

I think that 1pt War should take APPROX the same time as a 3pt - 4pt Raid game so should be easier to fit into the 1:30 slot than a standard 5pt raid game.

My suspicion is that it will favour those races with a *good* battle choices (arghh TWO Tertius!? (but then 5pt Raid greatly favours those races with good skirmish choices (10 Ka'Tans!!!) so hey ho!)

I like the idea of a variant fleet list but would like to add some tweaks the Admiral can make to adjust his fleet (after all, half the fun and strategy is in selecting the right fleet + how do you judge HOW variant a fleet list is and what about races with a poor number of choices to pick from?)

Still it would be fun to give it a go I think...

True, but the way the game works, it's biased towards buying downwards and the bigger ships usually lack the punch necessary to take on their "equivalents" in swarms.

With a higher PL this is less true as you get less abng for your buck with the lower PL ships.

1 pt WAR sounds better to me just as a tourney title feeder

I think we'd only need four tables a room (8 total). Thats 16 players

It was very loud in the one room but i guess we did keep all down one end.

can the club provide that many 6' by 4'ers?
