Between Vas and OOB there were a series of significant rules changes regarding aircraft. Damage points for each aircraft disappeared. As an example, in VaS, the Zero had 1 Damage point, meaning under the rules in VaS, it was destroyed if it was hit either in a dogfight or by AA. The Wildcat had 2 Damage points, meaning under the rules in VaS, it could take two hits.
The rules for dogfighting changed between VaS and OOB. With the emergence of the Defense die, the Damage values disappeared. The problem we seem to be having is where this applies to AA fire. As far as any of us can tell (we've got three people going through the books on this) the AA fire rules remain the same, i.e., each hit from AA removes one damage point. Since damage points are no longer listed, how are we to determine the success of AA fire?
Do we apply the defence die roll?
Our problem with this, we're just trying to wrap our heads around this rule. Is that when moving from VaS to OOB, certain planes become more vulnerable. The Val has a Damage value of 2, but it has no Defence value in OOB (or in S&P54).
How do we handle this?
