Well worth the investment, I've a Macbook Pro and am running AoC on Vista quite successfully, but it was hard work playing with the standard mouse and keyboard.

I must say I am enjoying AoC immensely in the couple of months I have been playing and getting more immersed in the world has got me into rereading the books and comics I had stored away as well as well as buying more Mongoose Conan goodies. :)

Does anybody use the Zboard gaming keyboard from Ideazone for AoC? I'm contemplating picking one up with the AoC keyset though it's a bit pricey. Is it a worthwhile tool to use for this game? Also, is the in-game item, the Kosalan ring, worth a damn?

I looked at various tools, keyboards, mice, and gaming gizmos this weekend. I was wondering if I could get more efficient in PvP.

My conclusion is that the best set-up is the keyboard and mouse. I can assign just about any key on the keyboard and mouse, so any of that other fancy stuff just isn't needed, imo.

I do use, though, a "gaming" mouse, the Razor Death Adder. Plus, I've found that a "gaming" mouse pad really does help (who knew a mouse pad would make a difference). So, if you get anything, get a good, fast, adjustable gaming mouse and a nice, solid color pad to go with it.

Heh, so I finally started with Age of Conan this weekend, much to my girlfriend's lament. Created a Stygian Herald of Xotli. Got him up to 20th level in 2 days, though I'm still questing in Tortage. Strafing with this type of character is hard as hell, but I'm still trying. I'll probably add the strafe to my 2 mouse side buttons. Glad I got the collector's edition, which came with the Ring of Acheron and the Drinking Cape. Only paid $20 for it on eBay. Also got the Kosalan ring from the Zboard AoC keyset (which is a WORTHY investment as it makes getting the feel for commands sooooooo easy). Oh, my guy's name is Kenamun and he's on the Cimmeria server, but I guess that doesn't matter until I leave Tortage. Some of the quests are a bit ridiculous, with doing errand boy type stuff for the nPeeps that just stand in one place all day. I'm still expecting to start a quest about cleaning some nPeep's laundry. :?

Ah well, PvP is fun as is combat in general, though I got spanked by guys that had their strafing down. I do like that the Herald is half melee half spellcaster. Having a lot of fun with him so far.

That can be done.

Strafing can be easy. Set your movement keys to WASD normal. Simply hit S or A for left or right movie while holding the right mouse button. Viola, you're strafing.

Yes, that's the price for the game these days, new, in retail box. I saw it at Best Buy the other day for $19.99.

I re-assigned my keys no less than 20 times, each time making an improvement for PvP.

The PvP will be constant until you level up some more. Around 35 or so, you'll see it start to drop off. My toon is 63 now, and it's been a long time since I was attacked in PvP. I have to go looking for some PvP action when I'm in the mood.

Supplement Four, what guild are you a part of? I got a few offers from a couple but haven't accepted any yet and I know I'm going to need help with a couple of quests in the Acheronian Ruins & White Sands.

Hammer of Vengeance. We're not for everybody. Our rep is either "bad" or that we're the "bad boys" of the server. Lots of PvP. We're Lvl 80 heavy.

Great bunch of guys (and a few gals), though. It's kinda like, once you become part of the biker gang, you're considered "one of their own".

We're a large guild. 250+ members. Lots of activity. Usually at least 10 people on whenever I play. And, they schedule activities every day. Usually, its for the 80's only, but tomorrow, my 63 Guardian is going to take his place with the guild as we do some siege warfare, taking on another guild's battle keep.

This will be my first mass battle. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Usually, there's a lot of raids or PvP scheduled in the evenings. Sometimes, they'll schedule a "free day".

A headset/mic is a requirement for the guild. They want to be able to coordinate strategy when we do group things.

There are other people who need to do the same thing. The group search function is for crap. They need to fix it. But, many times, you can put a group together yourself just by sending tells to people you see.

You don't need a guild to do those things. And, a guild doesn't always make it easier to group--depends on the average lvl of the guild.

With HoV, as I've said, we've got a lot of 80's. Some have alts they're starting at low level, but I've never put together an HoV only group for group quests (and I've done some PvP ing that way).

If you find a guild you like that have a lot of low level characters, the it should be easier to put together group quests using only your group mates.

Sentinels is a decent guild. They're a "non-ganking" guild. They don't attack people--ever. You can get kicked out of the guild if you're found ganking (although you can PvP criminals and attack those who attack others--helping them defend).

It depends on where your tastes are.

Ok, so I'm totally a fan of PvP. I've finally left Tortage at about lvl 22. Was in one of the Stygian zones outside of Khemi, which is a lot like White Sands but much less populated with other players. I was moving about a small town collecting quests when I got hit by some guy's lightning. Well, they'd thrown the lightning at range and I was able to run a bit away then use the Hide skill, which I'd put quite a few ranks in for a sorcerer. The guy knew I was around there but didn't have a high enough Search to find me. So then he focused on another player, that's when I struck. I used Hellstep to get his attention then followed up with a nasty combo. The guy ran all out to the city watch. I followed but didn't continue the attack. We exchanged rude emotes then I went back to questing.

So next I'm questing in the same zone, on a plain full of lions. One of the quests was to kill 10 lions and collect 5 male lion heads. As I'm moving about I see this one guy engaged with a male lion. I recognized him from before in the town where he was spawn camping. He must have attracted a lot of aggro from the lions because his health was less then half, despite being about the same level as my guy. So I morphed into demon form, Hellstepped, then followed with Pillar of Flame. The guy was toast. And I finished off the lion he'd been working on.

Finally, back in the small town I'm going back to talk to all the nPeeps I'd completed quests for when out of the blue some guy tries to hit me. I narrowly avoid his attack, by luck mostly, and notice he's level 30 while I'm only 23 at that point. I immediately use my Hide skill and make my way to the watch. The guy finally spots me, but by that time it's too late. I send a rude emote then Hide again long enough to get out of his sight. Just really, really like the cat and mouse aspect of PvP. Especially now that I'd finished all those quests my guy is now lvl 25 and can handle himself better. :)

Heh, more adventures in PvP last night. My character finally ran out of quests he could do in Stygia so took a boat to Aquilonia. I was surprised at the lack of quests for my guy in Tarantia, but I guess I'll just blame it on Aquilonian racism. One of the quests I'd found in the desert in Stygia was to deliver news of an nPeeps death to someone in the Wildlands of Zelata. So I journeyed there and noticed quite a bit of PvP going on right in the town. It appeared there were 2 criminals just trying to gank anyone they could and didn't care if the guards came after them for it. When they fought each other it seemed as if the guards didn't care if a couple criminals fought. Well, I'm just running around, trying to pick up quests when all of a sudden I get sneak attacked by one of them. I'm only wearing cloth armor and the rogue is 6 levels higher than me so that hurt, a lot. I immediately ran to the water's edge and jumped in. The rogue cursed me from the edge but didn't pursue. I swam around to the other side of the building I'd been on, jumped out and immediately hid. As soon as my health had come back I stealthed around and left the town. Well, there was that same rogue, attacking another twenty-something level character who was feebly fighting back. I switched to demon-form, hell-stepped, hit the rogue with word-of-command, then pillar of flame. Between the two of us the guy was toast. I saluted the other player and went on with my quests.

Beh. I'm getting royally pissed off about those frigging idiots who keep camping on quest areas and when you are middle of serious fight and nearly dead anyway somebody with half a dozen+ levels above you attack out of nowhere smashing you to ground and kills you within second or two.

Thankfully so much quests to do that usually all that accomplishes is putting me to finish up quest or two which have been near resurrection point anyway but sheesh. Those idiots can't think anything better to do?

If you've read earlier in the thread, you'll be happy to know that the ganking becomes less and less a part of your gaming night the higher level your toon gets.

My toon is now 64, and it's been a long, long time since he's been attacked.

Plus, there's a new patch coming out that encourages guilds to find allies. This means, if you get into a guild, you'll have some natural allies not only from your own guild mates but from the guilds you are allied with.

I think that will effect lower level PvP a bit.

I've felt the same way. In the end, though, it was you who decided to go PvP. You may want to ask yourself is PvE would be a better server for your tastes.

I played the game a bit. Great graphics.

But other than that it has nothing to do with Conan. Just your average MMO, using the same gimmicks than the other before it, same kind of classes, stuff race, high magic, dull quests, farming and all.

Yuck...

It may be your average MMO. I certainly agree the game has problems, and there's room for improvement. But, they do get Conan "right". The atmosphere is definitley there, especialy in Cimmeria.

The game looks great, and you've got to hand it to them for the combat system. Combat is never boring. You feel like you're in there chugging it out with an opponent.

And sure is epic when you are fighting with about dozen or so enemies at the same time and in the end only you stand there alive.

Kinda hectic and desperate when you need to get those "!¤!"#¤!"¤! pict bat shriekers rather than the bats first as the shrieker will just call new ones but boy is it fun.

Also the finisher moves are just fun. Still favourite is the chop the head off. Especially when it comes as part of nice combo's. Kill one, kill second, chop head off the third. Only one I don't like is the one where character sticks two handed sword into others chest and LETS GO of the sword laughing. Seems stupid when in middle of combat against 3 others...
