Advice, scenario & ships for casual play

Hello

I own both Victory at sea and age of dreadnoughts.

I've got ships for the battle of Denmark strait as well as River plate, but me and my friends have not played the game very much.

I'm looking to expand my ship collection a bit now, so therefore this question:

Does anyone have any experience with what makes for a fun & balanced scenario? It can be a historical scenario but it doesn't have to be. Things I think we would like:

- Variety in ship types involved.

- Not carrier based, we like gun battles.

- Even odds for both sides, no clear advantage for any one side.

- Playable in some hours (so we can't do Jutland).

Period wise it could be WWI or WW2, we'll buy whatever we need. Can any veterans offer some guidance and perhaps a ship list?

Any help appreciated.

The Med with Italians vs British. Ships are both early war types. Very little carrier action compared to the Pacific. Planes can be used from British carrier and from land for the Italians but not necesary. I play ths area the most myself and you can do what ifs such as the leaders were willing to risk there ships which they didnt or historical which leads to smaller battles so you dont need a ton of ships. Also the French are an option for some good what ifs.
