Advice Needed. What Should Be Next On My List?

I've got a decent start on my Mongoose Traveller 2E book collection. I'd like to get all the core book in hardcopy + PDF, but the adventures and campaigns can be just PDF.

Here's what I have. Our campaign has begun in the Trojan Reach.

What am I missing? What would be most useful to pick up next?

  • Core Rules Update 2022
  • Companion Update 2024
  • Central Supply Catalog 2023
  • High Guard 2022
  • Starship Operations Manual
  • Field Catalog
  • Robots Handbook
  • Small Craft Catalog
  • The Borderlands
  • Pirates of Drinax
  • Drinaxian Companion
  • Shadows of Sindal

I see a bunch of cool new books coming in 2026... but I'll be waiting for the hard copies on most of those.

Some options I'm considering...

  • The Third Imperium 'empire' book (we started in the The Third Imperium and will be working mainly in The Borderlands).
  • World Builders Handbook (I'm uncertain if I want to create worlds with this much detail most of the time, as we'll be moving around a lot).
  • Mercenary Box Set (Drinax campaign might lead to a need for 'army building'? But I'm concerned about some lesser reviews of this aspect of the Traveller 2E and worry Mongoose will be re-doing mercenary rules).
  • The Rim Expeditions also really appeals to me... (I like the idea of running a campaign that's more about exploration. But that's so far removed from where we are in the Trojan Reach).
  • Clans of the Aslan (though I'm wanting the new 2026 Aslan 'empire' book and worry this one will be obsolete soon).

The Aslan empire book isn't the same as the Clans book. The two should work together, rather than one supplant the other.

Thanks! Since we're in the Trojan Reach and there seems to be a good chance of interacting with Aslan... I'm very tempted to go that way. I've created an a very 'unconventional' male Aslan merchant / equipment & arms dealer who operates out of the Hradus highport and The Borderlands. His specialty is Aslan artifacts, and he's going to be the sponsor of a few missions to recover Aslan artifacts. So I'm thinking the Aslan Clan book might be of use to us. We'll be diving a bit into Aslan culture and historical sites, which it would be nice to ground in some of the source material.

I'd say World Builder's Handbook. Even with the Sector being pretty well defined (you won't be using much of the system generation sections, for example), it has a lot of really good discussion about how star systems work, and the parts that are about fleshing out worlds are always handy.

Even in a well defined system, there's stuff left to the Referee, and WBH is an ideas manual. And if you expand out to less well described systems, it IS the resource for working those out.

Given that you are doing Pirates of Drinax, I would expect that Adventure Class Ships and Small Craft Catalogue would greatly expand the range of ships you can have available that are the appropriate size. Unless you just love making your own ships and floorplans.

The World Builder's Handbook is pretty fun. I use to backwards build out my systems all the time. (aka "This is what I want. How do I make that not explode anyone's brains with a blatant astrophysics error).

The Reach Adventures adds additional info to worlds in the Reaches, so if that's helpful to you, that's a good way to go also.

Awesome suggestions! Thanks all. I'll be checking out those Reach Adventures, and the Adventure Class Ships book. I also just noticed an Aslan related book specific to the Trojan Reach area called The Glorious Empire. But apparently they are a splinter empire of Aslan.

And they’re getting their butts trashed.

Glorious Empire is an Aslan empire in decline. They are also slavers and generally disliked by everyone, especially other Aslan.

If you have an interest in Aslan, then I would recommend all of the Aslan related books, Aliens of Charted Space Vol. 1, Clans of the Aslan and Glorious Empire.
Also, Reach Adventures are great to add.

The Great Rift set also has some information useful to the Aslan and the general area rimward and trailing.

Thanks! I'm avoiding the Aliens of Charted Space Vol 1 just because I see an updated version is coming out in 2026. Otherwise, yea... I think I'll have to pick up all the Aslan material at some point.
