Hopeless

Mongoose
So what with the recent Pathfinder news it got me wondering if anyone has tinkered with the idea of a Post-apocalyptic Legend setting?

For example you have your game start at the shores of a lake surrounding an ancient island adorned by a ruined fortress.

The town that's built up on the shores surrounding the lake have their story to tell originally established when the fortress was ruled by a so-called Seer whose lust for power caused a rival order to descend upon the area devastating the fortress forcing the Seer to collapse the land forming the lake as it is now drowning a majority of the battling forces including her own.

At the darkest hour a silver dragon descended upon the area slaying many of the still warring forces, forcing the surviving to take heed and made them perform a ceremony for the dead sealing them far beneath the newly formed island preventing the rise of an unstoppable horde of undead.

The dragon descended within the island and is said to have entered a deep sleep insuring the seal remains undisturbed as long as the surviving clergy perform an annual ceremony intended to keep both asleep and whatever remained of civilisation safe.

However this story is now regarded as mere myth and ignored for the most part the recent upheavals however catch more attention and your party has been sent across to the island to discover the truth as well as discover whatever lost treasures lie within.

Yes there is a dragon and she is protecting the town but she isn't ASLEEP!

Seriously?

Okay how about an island off the coast that was according to legend deliberately separated from the mainland after it became home to an order of blood sucking knights who swore fealty to their "king" who claimed to ruled the entirety of Rhitia.

Even though his one attempt led to his now island home being left stranded in an aura of perpetual twilight the result of a curse that looms across every inch of his island dominion...

Someone is raiding your villages and tracking them back you find yourselves staring at the accursed island watching as the last of the boats you believe carried your enslaved family disappear within the accursed mist that surround that vile realm and you find yourselves wondering... dare we follow?

Can you turn back now?!

Okay how about you post your own adventure ideas?

It feels like this forum has been decidedly lacking in inspiration of late so how about you provide some insight of your own to spice things up?

How about you're vying for a noble title and deeds to your very own castle and all that's standing in your way is a theocracy and former Empire whose eyeing the same territory ear marked for your characters!

Will you ally with them?

Drive them out?

Trust your fellow players to help you or hope they don't recognise you're messing them around?

The last game I ran involving this the blacksmith PC's girlfriend been kidnapped along with the local sheriff and guess whose lumbered with rescuing them?

Fortunately they have two Meerkats for backup and if you're familiar with Historia Rodentia then you know it's far worse!

Okay apologies if this offends anyone but figured this was worth discussing.

Opening scene the local adventuring party confronts a mad scientist in her ruined tower.
Their interference damages one of her creations and in the process they cause a massive explosion causing the only remaining tower to collapse seemingly killing everyone inside.

Now this scenario has the descendants of those protagonists meet up in a village tavern where they learn they were summoned by the only survivor of that debacle who has left them a bequest if they complete their mission their failed.

Somewhere out there a number of the mad scientists inventions are on the rampage and because their predecessors were responsible for releasing them its their job to resolve the situation.

The Mad Scientist was actually benevolent, their predecessors were hired to kidnap the scientist and steal all of her work unaware she was trying to seal away the four monsters when they stumbled in and freed them.
The Scientist barely escaped and the monsters are hunting her because she was close to successfully banishing them and they don't want to give her the chance to try again!
Oh and the survivor was actually the vampire using a glamor...

So you have a version of Frankenstein's Monster, an actual Mummy, a Vampire and a Medusa somewhere out there hunting for something or someone.

How would you react if you were told this as the start of the game?

Originally posted the above spoiler here just realised it was in the wrong place!

Sorry, been a bit busy and we haven't been ignoring you. :)

Personally, I am not that keen on mixing post-apocalypse and straight fantasy genres. So, a ruined modern city and a dragon wouldn't be something that I would choose to run. As a player, it might be OK, though.

The third one is more interesting, but having the descendants of the original party being involved means there must have been thirty years or so between them. You need a reason why the monsters were dormant for that time. Also, having the sole survivor of the party as a sponsor means that there is no mystery, he tells them where the the ruined tower is, what happened and it just becomes a bug hunt. It would be better for him to try and contact the party but be killed before they could meet. A trail of clues could then lead to the tower, or to a colleague of the mad scientist, or to both, then the adventurers find the monsters have gone their separate ways. They would still hunt the monsters but not have an idea of who has brought them back and why.

I like the second one, it has the right level of intrigue and party investment. Do they fight for their new territory or roll over and lose everything?

They haven't been dormant and its only been a couple of years depending on how long it took to first contact and gather these descendants maybe I should have stuck to relatives?

The monsters are hunting the mad scientist as she had been about to banish them when the heroes burst in and almost killed everyone!
The survivor is actually one of the monsters who is going to use them to help him find the scientist before she can restore enough of her resources to come after them especially as she knows they're hunting her...

I really need to spoiler more properly!

Thanks for the response was getting worried Legend wasn't of any interest to anyone anymore!
