Adira is friggin' expensive!

Mongoose
 Wow... I mean $60 for that ship... Mongoose must be pretty proud of that panelless hunk of pewter. I'm dubious as to it's usefulness in my fleet and convinced I can't afford it.

It's a swine to put togeter and needs pinning in various places, once pinned and glued you have a very powerful very ugly ship that doesn't fit in with the rest of the fleet

yep...powerful, expensiv...but twice as ugly.
the guy who sculpted this monster get....ach...forgot it.

I'd rather buy another fleet box than a Adira for the extra $40 dollars. It is too big & crappy to buy especially when it's meant to be the centrepiece of your fleet & it will hardly get any use. I've spent a lot of money on models, 4 Complete fleets with my Centauri very large & i just won't buy one or the Liati for that matter.

When you consider that you can buy the Ancients box set of 5 ships for less than the cost of the Adira you realise just how over priced it actually is

My feelings exactly - It's a crummy model and I can buy another fleet for the cost of it. It should be in the $35 range, imo.

Interesting. Besides the Money issue...what do people think about the ship "in-game". I have yet to play a game where I could field mine. but was wondering what others thought about it in games they played???

Thanks!

Curtis

I'm not in love with the Adira but I'm satisfied with mine. I do like the reaction of advirsaries when they see it coming. I'm currently playing in a mega campaign and have fielded the Adira three times. As for the price I believe it is too expensive. I believe the price increase is BS especially when you consider the poor casts us yanks are getting. And don't get me started on misorders and customer service.

the Adira is ok, personally i like it. its also got a lot more metal in than anything similar priced from GW and weighs loads.
as for in battle, so far its not been that impressive apart from one game at the last mongoose tourney. My adira came out of a JP and tore the heart out of a minbari fleet (killed a sharlin, crippled a teshlan, heavily damage a veshetan and another teshlan) with only 2 arcs of firing.

I actually quite like the model, Sure it's expensive, but then it is a huge lump of metal (or rather 3 huge lumps of metal that refuse to stick together!) Statwise, it's pretty decent, certainly one of the better armageddon ships for sure

Gameplaywise, its decent enough, as mentioned one of the few Armageddon ships that actually deserves to be at that level.

Modelwise, Im afraid I dont really like it, compared to nearly all other centauri ships it just looks far too 'smooth' it's curves are too uniform and whilst, sure its big, its mostly featureless, a ship that size should have LOADS of detail. Id like to see it redone with more detail like the Vree Tzakk was then I think it might be worth it, as it stands I certainly dont think its worth the £30 asking price. Id rather buy 2 Octurions (and I think 2 Octurions would probably be better gamewise anyway) and that would still leave me £6 leftover to buy some some fighters to go with them!

When you consider how small the Ancients ships are, and how they totally lack detail, in fact the only decent model amongst them is the Traveller. I mounted mine on its side because the best part of the entire Ancients box set is the Traveller's underside, which is supposed to be underneath and therefore never even seen! When you realize these things, you see what a good buy the Adira is in comparison!!

I agree with the OP and general consensus but using the Ancients box set to compare is a very bad idea.

I disagree.

First, I think there's far more detail on the ancients - loads more. Besides the ancients look like the ancients - blame JMS for their subtlety, but the Adira diverts from the Centauri norms and goes smooth?!

Second, since when is bigger better in this game? I have a Poseidon and the size of that beast interferes in my games. More metal means more metal not better model and definitely not a more practical game piece.

Mongoose is making us pay more for their bad design and ten pounds of pewter. Whether your taste accepts the design or not, I think we all agree, the ship doesn't have to be the size of a laptop and shouldn't cost as much.

Dark Knife: no detail whatsoever
Thoughtforce: very plain, virtually no detail
Lordship: reasonably good detail but very small model, in fact less than 1" high
Triumviron: good shape but not much detail, decent size
Traveller: best of the bunch by a mile

Like I said I do agree the Adira is overpriced and over-bloated in size. But I also think that the Ancients represents bad value for money, and (except the Traveller) are very bad models. So to use that as a comparison is not good. Better to say you can get the Centauri Reinforcements set for the same price.

I put together an alternative adira from existing parts before the Adira was available.

Take an Octurion, add a second centre hull to it beside the first. fill in the gaps between the two and build up the bridge area, adding additional turrets to flesh it out.

I also took the wings vertical rather than horizontal simply to make the beast fit into storage boxes easier, although that would be a matter of taste.

Whole thing came out looking pretty good, will get a picture onto a thread when I can.

i´am so sorry about the entire bad things about the adira...but give me those entire metal that are wasted for this swine and i sculpt yours an far better centauri battleship, really.

and otherwise....i use plastic and make an real beauty of ship. i have some ideas with the octurian parts....

Hmm, every time i Go in ID they try to flog me one cheap, they must be desperate to get rid!
