ACTA: SF - SCOUTS

Rambler

Mongoose
Just a heads up. The Project Workbook for Captain's Log #44 (Ships 12 Dec) has 7 Scouts penciled in for ACTA:SF as new ships.

I'm not sure what scouts do in ACTA. I think they give dice re-rolls or something.

Seven is a lot. Federation, Kzinti, Klingon, Romulan, Gorn is five... Tholian maybe, that's six. Orions don't really have dedicated scouts, but maybe the seventh? Or perhaps multiple scouts for one of the "TV Empires", Roms, Klingons, Federation? We'll know soon enough I suppose.

Good catch! Now, let the speculation begin as to which scouts those might be....

My guess (and it is only a guess) is the war cruiser scouts:
Fed NSC
Klingon D5S
Rom SPC
Kzin MSC
Gorn HDS
Tholian SC (No CW yet)
Orion LRS(?)

edit: Changed the Fed ship to the right variant

Finlos I think you are probably right about the War Cruiser Scouts. Could be War Destroyer based, but I bet it will be CWSs. Tholian probably DDS.

Scouts in ACTA do several things, they help targetting stealth, allow refilling of some AD, jamming, and retooling initiative among them.

Iron - if we go by previous versions of ACtA then scouts on table will improve initiative on the first turn, help break stealth, improve targetting of enemy vessels - all of which are in SFB from memory.
A simple special action option would allow any ship to receive stealth benefits and simulate the old lending of ECM from Scout channels. I expect scout channels to allow a bunch of bonuses to those actions using labs as well is ACtA:SF

I'd bet that Finlos is pretty close to right.
the war cruiser scouts would be a good initial foray.

They are big enough to survive combat...
They are small enough to not be overpowering...
There are already base hull miniatures for those in the ST2500 range...

Those were pretty much the exact reasons I used to choose the scouts, except I'd add to the first reason 'able to contribute significantly'. The DW scout and FF scout would be just too small to survive long in fleet action.

edit: Rumour has it Sandrine start on battleships Dec 5th, which should prove quite interesting to follow
