ACTA:SF release

I haven't seen a yea or nay on this yet - does the rulebook include rules and stats for any of the fighters and carriers, or for gunboats? They're a big deal in SFB, and nearly mandatory for doing some fleets (eg Hydrans) but are they in the core book?
 
No fighters or PFs.

From what I understand, CTA:SF is following FedCom to an extent. CTA:SF has basically the same ships as Klingon Attack, Klingon Border, Romulan Attack and Romulan Border, perhaps with minor differences.
 
Well, they'll have to put the fighters in by the time they get to the Hydrans - and the Lyrans will need the gunboat rules, having invented them. All the more reason to put off getting the core book right away - they'll do a compiled rulebook eventually, will use the minibook until then. Never liked buying rules a bite at a time.
 
Even leaving FC aside, I might note that even in SFB, the Lyrans got by well enough without gunboats for over a hundred years before the first batch entered service.

(In contrast, the Hydrans from the Middle Years onward had explicitly shifted to the casual-carrier doctrine which has come to define their modern fleet.)
 
Yes, but the Lyran are on the other side of the map from plasma-armed empires, so it doesn't matter all that much.
 
Agreed about plasma armed PF's - and the Romulan ones Cloak, so i can see them being popular (and the Gorn / ISC running away from a PF heavy fight)
 
Well comparing Lyran PFs to Gorn, Rom, ISC ones is not going to look well for the Lyrans. But they don't have to fight such either; the Lyrans are across the quadrant from those other plasma races.

Comparing the Lyran PFs to Kzin, Klingon, Hydran, and Orion PFs is a better fit.
 
In tournaments, they'll have to face whatever turns up on the other side of the table.

I'd hope that PFs are some time away yet, since they're not even in FC at present.
 
PFs will be the ultimate eggshells with hammers. With only a handfull of hull under a 6-8 point shield they will die very fast. With plasma Fs the Gorn/ISC/Rom ones will ahve more on a one shot punch, the Fed ones if they get them with an overloaded Photon will also be scary in a pack of 6.

Rom ones under cloaks will be probably doing the same 6" as every one else does under cloak and can be killed by phasers anyway. 6" per turn isn't so scary (maybe 7" if they are fast).

PFs aren't realy about cloaks, more about fast flanking stikes, dumping a ton of firepower and running away very fast :lol:
 
Being the first to field them every other race had upwards of a year to look at them and work in new designs and weapons. The Lyrans have disruptors and phaser 1s which makes for a decent knife fighter type PF. High speed attack runs, dump 12 disruptors and 12 phaser 1s onto a target and run away to pick on someone else next turn.

Yes the Lyrans have no "big gun" firepower and do not have a third weapon system that most other non plasma races have (drones, phaser Gs etc) but that doesn't make them totaly useless. Well aside from the stigma of being Lyran anyway :lol:

In ACTA they would work well supporting fleets to finish off crippled ships that have downed shields from main ship fire or to go after specialist targets. 12 phasers 1s and 12 disruptors pack a heavy punch against smaller targets and PFs should be able to dance around even the agile stuff.
Klingons and Kzinti have drones so can provide some longer range fire support. The hydrans are basically big fighters with fusion beams and Phaser Gs. Orions can be most things.

I would imagine that PFs would be automatically squadrons, if you can field a tender and 6 separate PFs that is a huge Initiative sink. Still with campaign games based on an advancing time line the Lyrans have a while before everyone else gets them.

For the plasma side, do they have two plasma Fs and need to do a reload order to reload them since they can fire only two a turn in SFB or do they fire 2 a turn out of how many they have then need to reload after two or three turns of firing (Rom with 5 Plasma Fs for example).
 
In ACTA's Babylon 5 incarnation you had super-heavy fighters for several races. I'd expect that if P/Fs appear they'll use similar rules (so they'd have separate movement and firing phases from starships along with normal fighter stands).
 
If i remember my SFB days, Plasma armed PF's had 'freezers' - stasis boxs with a armed/charged plasma-F (1 shot, but no charge cost, and generally about 4 launchers) plus phasers. As the range was identical to ship mounts, and you fired by turning off the freezer, a pack of 6 could throw 24 Plasma's in one attack (not that this happened, as then you have a platform that could be outgunned by a heavy fighter (an A20 with a gatling pod was nasty)
 
Has anyone that ordered through a distributer gotten their stuff yet, just spoke with the company i placed my order through and there still waiting to recieve the product from mongoose. also has anyone gotten there CC yet for purchasing over $150 dollars worth.
