ACTA:SF Miniatures & decals

There are some things apparently going on behind the scenes. As soon as anything is formally decided, I am sure there will be some sort of announcement by Mongoose.

It is what it is and I cannot change it. All I can do is report.

This is the last post I will make on this topic unless someone posts something that inaccurately reflects on ADB, Inc.

Here is the latest information about Tenneshington Decals (Tony L. Thomas and Will McCammon).

A deal has been worked out and decals will be made available. These will be sets of custom decals only (for names not on the sheets that Mongoose will be creating). They will start out with the Federation units only, but in the first quarter of 2012 they should be expanding that to all empires and adding in decals for the 2400s as well. It will require a bit of adjustment to the original plan, so there will be a bit of a delay in getting going, but not much.

They feel confident that things will be ready to go no later than Monday 12/19.

From SVC: The three involved all thought we knew what the others were doing, then OH MY GOSH thought maybe we didn't know what the others were doing, then discovered that, no, everybody was doing what we had agreed to do. The paperwork is in order, the contracts are good, nobody is doing anything illegal or hinky or sneaky, nobody is upset with anybody, and we're all doing what we had all planned to do weeks ago.

A quick question if you don't mind me asking.

Perhaps I missed an anouncement somewhere but does this mean Mongoose ARE going to be doing decal sheets for the 2500 fleets?

Many thanks.

Mongoose has said they will be doing sheets. So that Tenneshington Decals isn't in direct competition, Will and Tony will be doing sheets that are customized -- and that does mean more expensive. However, if you want to fly the USS Jonah, then you can and you will have all the decals you need to do so.

Does that help?

Jean

Thank you.

I'll be looking for decals once i start painting which will be Jan/Feb time.

Not at all sure about the USS jonah though, sounds like an invitation to:

crash
burn
get eaten by space monsters
all of the above

:lol:

@Jonah:
If I understood Matthew's intentions correctly (and I may be wrong); Mongoose will release a decal sheet.
At this point, I do not know the composition of the sheet, I do not know how many ships it will cover, and I do not know what names it will have on it. But there will be a sheet; emphasis on "A" sheet.
I do believe Mongoose's plan is to only have the one, single sheet with no ability for customization.

Our plan is to do the custom work.
We will have a Fleet Box sheet which has 16 names for 16 ships; and you can pick the names.
We will have a Squadron Box sheet with 5 names for 5 ships; and you can pick the names.
and we will also have mini sheets available for the single / double ship blisters with customizable names.

We'll have more details avaialble next week.
The current plan is to begin taking orders next week.
We have the artwork for some of the names we expect peope to want done. Those names will be a matter of pasting them into a document and clicking print.
Truly custom names, i.e., names with no previosuly existing artwork may take a while.

Regardless, once we start taking orders, we will start printing decals and shipping them. Hopefully that menas that once your minis are painted, your dcals are sitting there waiting to be applied!

Yes! This is what we want to hear!!

Custom name sets are a great idea! One presumes that if you really want the USS Fernackapants in your fleet, these are the guys to help you make it happen...

Question: What about Romulan and Klingon decals? I know their ships don't carry much in terms of individualised markings, but suitable symbols, perhaps rendered from suitable Trek-inspired 'alien' fonts lurking on the 'net, and national insignia, could go a long way to adding 'zing!' to a fleet.

I second the question for Klingon (and others) decals. A Klingon ship without the trifoil just seems wrong :shock:

I can't speak for Tony & Will, but one must assume that they will draw the line on some requests. I just can't see them providing a decal for the "USS *bleep* You!"

Again, just guessing from what has been posted publicly, I would suspect that those will be done by Mongoose. However, comma, if you want something special not on the standard list, Tony & Will should be able to make it happen.

Yes. There will be Klignon and Romulan decals offered.

It will be a while as we have to evaluate the vrious MD adn dye-sublimation printers to determine which best fits our needs... but they will come.

@davyj0427:
Within limits.
Nothing offensive, nothing so long it won't fit on hte mini,and as for copyrighted - that depends.
What copyrighted name?
You want the USS Mickey Mouse, I'd do it just to be able to blow it up! :wink:

@Captain Jonah:
As stated before. eventually.
We are pricing the equipment needed to print in white/metallic ink (as well as dry-transfer). Once we've determined the best way to go, we will obtain the equipment.
After that, it's a matter of generating artwork.
Unfortunately, we can't just go to the web, google an image, and start making decals from it. Will and I both have full time jobs (this is just a side-line), so spooling up the process does take time.

On the plus side, once we have the artwork done, it's relatively easy to do the individual ships.
