No we won't, most languages borrow a little from others and get variety - English does more than that.

That's why you like "Croissanterie" use a "Bureau de Change" or get into a "Cul-de-sac" ;-)

Some guys around here are screaming about it but we do use "week-end" as a french word. (and it's not the only word we took from english/american)
As a non mother tongue speaker I often use a dictionnary and I have to admit it's sometime quite confusing. Let's talk about color or colour, licence with a c or a s and so on ... Finally what is important is to be understood isn't it ?

Yes, well, English is more than merely "adaptable". It's downright thieving, like Myrm said. Worse still, now that America is the Superpower than ever before. Americans are lazy. If we find that another language has a word that describes what we're trying to say (and that word is short and easy to pronounce), we use that word instead of trying to come up with our own or use multiple or long English words.

I have to agree with David. Americans aren't lazy, they're just used to filtering out what works and what doesn't. You also have to remember that the US has been innundated with immigrants, all with different languages, since before we were a nation. It's only natural that our version of English would be a bit more...colorful than the Queen's English.
Heck, my home state has been part of the Union for over 200 years, but it wasn't until my parent's generation that a majority of people spoke English as their first language.
