ACTA RIP....

Would love to see campaign books. Especially if they feature "themed" fleet lists

And a vote for.

Add another. Good campaign book with interesting story and variant fleet lists are nice books to read.

BTW is ACTA cancelled for good for forseeable future or does the 2009 bit on planet mongoose suggest it might come back on sale on 2009? Or am I being too optimistic here?

There's no point asking if the range will be back in 2009, they didn't know for certain they'd be taking it off a month ago, nobody can know what will happen financially a year in the future.

All you can do is show support for the game so they know we want them back, and hope that the world economy turns our way.

Dilgar War
Earth-Minbari War
War of Retribution
Shadow War
Earth Civil War
Drakh War
Wars of the Centauri Republic

Should all be pretty self-explanatory and not require any new miniatures - variants could be included. Seven campaign books would give MGP something to work on over this year and maybe - just maybe - keep some interest in this game until models can be restarted in '09.

Of course, God help you all if that doesn't happen. Any credibility you had left will be gone, I'm afraid. I love thise game and I've had no real complaints about Mongoose before now but I've spoken to people who are very unhappy. I'm going to get some i-told-you-sos out of this...

If Mongoose can't outsource the production of figures to Iron Winds or another company due to licencing issues, are alternative methods of production (such as plastics) being looked at, and can you tell us anything about any glimmers on the horizon?

Hmm I presume it is all tied up with the B5 RPG ? Is there any chance of impact on that line?

No impact is predicted.

regarding S+P is support still continuing on ACTA within this and is there any chance of the "annual" update book youb mentioned previously still happening?

That is the intention. We will likely change the focus from a 'new fleets and ships' book to one concentrating on a camapign (like the 1e Earth-Minbari War). Happy to gauge people's thoughts on this - what would you like to see?

Good to hear - I mentioned my thoughts elsewhere but will repeat here (sorry) - I would like (personally) a book with:

Rules updates and clarifications
A reworked Gaim fleet list
a cool campaign setting - both Katadder and Hiffano made excellent and interesting supplements which could be adpated/expanded if the Authors were agreeable to make them "official" (I'd love to see mine - but its more well, alternative than mainstream)
A few new ship variants

In a ideal world it would be like the Forge world books ................in all respects from fluff to artwork :)

just my HO :D

Not sure how plastics would really help as moulds for those cost arm and teeth. Initial investment costs would be pretty big to get ACTA line turned into plastic...

But that's just my guess.

Msprange: Does this move also imply that the planned CTA game with original background and the planned CTA game based on an unnamed, licensed, property are "on hold" or not going to be produced?

That's what I understand about plastics as well, however more and more companies are making plastics work, so the costs must be getting less restrictive.

OK, another alternative, how far outside the TV series does the licence from WB extend. Could you do Babylon 5 fifty years on, call it something else, and then use an outside company to produce the figures?

now thats a kick in da nuts :( very unfortunatle to because WereRogue is 1/3 finished with my mammoth vorlon fleet and i had 2 more planned immediatly following that but with how hard it was just to get those figs i don't know that i'd ACTUALLY be able to get more before their gone despite the fact im hesitant to do so knowing the figs will likely not be back.

I'd hope that mongoose continues with their yearly book updates with new fleets/variants as i for one would be more interested in that then campaigns and such. It would also be VERY helpful if they'd put out offical 2e Counters for people to use. I won't stop playing the game, but as its just me and a FEW other people in the Portland area that has JUST started to get into the game i don't expect their will be much gaming going on except between me and my friend :(

if the oportunity comes along in 2009 would it be possibly, likely much cheaper, to do plastic minis? i for one don't give a rip if minis are plastic or metal so long as i have something that properly depicts my unit.

here's to hoping that not too long down the road minis can come back.

Whilst we the consumer can always vote with our wallets, if a line becomes unprofitable and to continue to support it would put the whole company at risk, it is clearly the right decision to drop the line. I think we all have to accept that Mongoose have to put commercial realities above any other considerations.

I do hope that the game system itself will continue to be supported "commercially", but it is hard to see how this can really be the case without the minis. I for one, would not have got into it without the minis - playing with counters isn't my thing and never will be. Games like Victory At Sea don't require a dedicated mini line, because there are literally dozens of manufacturers who can fulfill that need. I'm certain that if Mongoose can't support a B5 line, no one else is going to be able to step up to the plate.

I'll continue to play though - I've just got about 6 weeks left to buy anything else that I might want.

Regards,

Dave

Or they think they are going to sell enough to make it justifiable and have the resources to do that. Mongoose doesn't aparantly make enough with ACTA to cover expenses as it is and I don't think simply going from metal to plastic would cover expenses enough. Atleast not enough to go for such a risky move(if it fails Mongoose would be in big trouble...).

But heck what do I know? Never been working inside :D

So the same procedure as every time. When you criticise them, they delet you.

If comments are distinctly unhelpful or rude, yes. We did give a warning.

They should open their ear and read the post and should hear the screams of their customers. And what they would hear is that their decision is not liked.

We get that. We got that before we made any announcement at all. However, consider a poll;

1. CTA miniatures are cancelled, with due warning, and discounts to boot.
2. You roll dice and gamble on whether the parent company is still around in 12 months.

Guys, we don't do this on a whim. We do it because it is necessary. We can see problems coming up, and take action to avoid them becoming an issue. Anything else would be extremely irresponsible. It would cost jobs, and the last thing the hobby games industry needs right now is another company disappearing.

It is a kick in the teeth - we know that. I have worked and bled on CTA for years now, and I certainly feel the pinch that losing miniatures causes. My heart and soul is in this game.

But it is necessary.

And now you have your heart brutally ripped from your chest and kicked in the tone of...

You know this brings back bad memories of Epic Armageddon :( Fell in love with that game at the end of the playtest period, bought tons of it, game had bright future when you looked at designers vision for it, then blam support goes away.

And now something similar(though atleast here it has bussiness reason. Literally making loss...). With clean sweep both ACTA and SST model lines are killed. Ugh. What's with it that I end up collecting games that end up dead? Guess that's the price you have to pay by not playing FB/40k...

Ah well. Still have Epic armies. Still have SST armies(plenty of it unpainted as well), still have ACTA fleets(lots of unpainted there too ;-) so models isn't problem but opponents IS going to be problem :(

What about the "unnamed" license Mongoose was working on?? I want to play some Star Trek. <grin>

well it wasn't Trek

apart from Federation Commander you'll have to mod a rules set (such as ACTA) to play Star Trek

Well, at least I'm not the only one... :?

My Epic Eldar sit in my basement these days, alongside my FA Minbari and Vree, to go with my ACtA Vree, BFE USMC, and unpainted Skinnies. The Blood Bowl teams, on the other hand, have actually been seeing some use lately. Go figure...
