ACTA RIP....

To be fair, it wasn't the minis that initially got me into the game - it was the setting. When thePirv and I first got the rulebook, we played with counters for a long time. For new players, a package with the rules, fleets and counters could actually be quite attractive.

It saddens me that some new, cool minis won't be released, but hopefully a complete and concise set of counters would help. Those of us that are more creative (Urobach, Da Boss, maybe a few others) and can sculpt could continue making new ships en masse to keep the painters happy.

Anyone pmed / emailed Matt et al for a official word?

Alex is pretty darn official, ok we only got a pasted copy of an e-mail, rather than alex posting, but i can't see any reason he would lie to people, and hobbybox spoke to matt who confirmed it.

Well, if this is true, hopefully, they'll pass on the production rights to someone else. It would be sad for the B5 license to be wasted with no minis. Though personally, I prefer counters and a good set of counters would be great for the game.

This doesn't come as a surprise to me in the slightest. Given the problems with miniatures since the release of the Drakh (distinct lack of Mothership for some people), if not before it (older molds collapsing and minis being produced with LOTS of flash and miscasts) I honestly thought minis production had dried up anyway.

It's a blow to the metal collector fans, but as TenaciousB said, we played for months with counters and only got minis once we had settled on a fleet.

I can honestly see me selling my Drakh stuff on ebay and just going back to counters if I want to play.
Drakh minis were ugly as sin anyway.

I'd also call that banner at the top "A Call To Arms 20% Off End of Line Sale!" pretty darn official!

After a very successful number of years producing miniatures for our Origins award-winning game A Call to Arms, Mongoose Publishing is announcing today that we will cease production of this range of models with effect from March 31st 2008.

The increasing costs associated with this range combined with its sheer breadth means that production of miniatures is no longer commercially viable at this time. As a result we have reduced our prices on the miniatures by 20%, which will continue until March 31st 2008, when they will be removed from our catalogue. So, if you have been thinking about that new Shadow fleet or want to bolster the defences of the ISA, now is the time!

We will still continue to support A Call to Arms through Signs & Portents and book releases.

yeah, that may cover it!

I fell like we've been lied to.

For weeks Matt has been telling us all the production and distribution problems were solved.

Instead the whole range is cancelled.

They say the game will be supported in books & S&P, but unless another model company picks up production, this game is dead.

I know folks will continue playing, but games live or die on whether they can attract new blood. No minis means it will be virtually impossible to attract anyone.

So all the new years blahblah seems to be dada as well, the early space colonisation thing, the `other big license` etc etc etc?

Back in the days when I managed a store in GW, sales were more Mini related. If you sold a box of 40K, then you looked at making about £300 in mini sales.

So the questions are, where have Mongoose gone wrong?

Maybe the over development in mini designs, which showed little on the retail range (Drakh mother ship, and Narn ships come to mind). It could have been the haphazard delivery system, of the product range. Maybe the unlimited number of licenses bought, to populate the mongoose range (Elric, and Hawkmoon).

In short, MGP have spread themselves way too thin. In light of the current world fiscal situation, people are tightening their belts. Businesses are trimming off excess fat, to keep themselves afloat. MGP are doing the same thing, to keep themselves in the black. They are shedding off the parts, which are not directly keeping them in money.

Having just started collecting b5 ActA, I am disappointed and saddened to see the modal range finishing up its last sales soonish. Ill need to scramble for next 2 months pay for my centauri and briakri fleets but at 20% it should make it bit eaiser on the bank account or credit card tho.

I have only started my EA fleet and yet to start buying any Vorlon models. With a wedding to pay for I've no way of getting them between now and March 31st

What's with only being able to shop in Pounds?

beats me, you used to be able to use US dollars too. But Mongoose is a British company, and our de-facto currancy is pound sterling.
