After a very successful period of producing miniatures for our award winning game A Call to Arms Mongoose Publishing is announcing today that we will cease production of this range of models with effect from March 31st 2008.

"So we are doing very well, and we are cutting our losses"

I have a very nice Vorlon, EA, and Narn fleet if anyone is interested :D

Well that sucks...

I'm glad I didn't fork out that £100 or so on that Dilgar fleet now.

Am I wrong in thinking that Mongoose had plans to release expensions, and also a tie in game with ACTA.

Trying to look to the future[i/b]

The news sounds like miniatures will be dropped from the game, but as the old box set I'm sure a lot of us veterans will have still contains the cradboard countersthese will have to contine our ACTA fix for the foreseeable future.

Remember folks though it says mini production will stop, not game development. So the game itself is kinda hanging in there. Just sounds like Mini's are becoming too expensive to make. We will just have to rely on those great scratchbuilders making us all ships!

personally, as much of a pain at it is, it might be for the good, Mongoose always seemed to have one to many fingers in pies, this way they can consolidate and make even better what they keep.

You know, something occurs to me. Matt seems pretty dedicated to the idea of pre-paints. Maybe he's got some plan up his sleeve for ACtA pre-paints. I'd be more than a little unhappy with this development but it might be better than nothing.

I'm hoping they're going to outsource the model making and this is, in fact, the way they claim to have turned their distribution problems around. What were all those grandiose claims for if they're just going to drop the game like a hot rock?

I wonder could this help at all by making certain un official makers - official makers?

hopeful emote time...............

Well also means better hammer my credit card (again!) and get more stuff now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I think many on here have noticed the ongoing problems with the figure production process.....................so lets hope there is a good future for ACTA rules - Victory at Sea has no official models .

Counters and unoffical models - use other peoples ships - there is some light at the end of tunnel!

Hey it might be a ruse, as everyone rushes out to buy everything. Then next month, hey look, we've decided to bring out a new line :)

Vas works without a dedicated mongoose mini production.
That's because VAS is based on real, historical, readily available models. Anyone can produce models of a ship. But to produce B5 minis, you require a license from the copyright holders. Plus, who is to say what a Neroon looks like? If there are no longer official Mongoose-sanctioned minis, anyone could basically use any mini they like to represent any ship. Proxying will go through the roof, especially for new ships, which may not even have an official model!

I've just had a thought,

Could this be Mongoose dropping out of the miniature market, and now just becoming a rule book company?

I'd be happy with that, as they do produce some solid rule sets, but rather lacking models.

Why does this mean people will stop playing? not sure I understand that reasoning - the 40K RPG is cancelled - shame but still will be playing.

Its annoying if you have no minis but they will be out there for some time - plus there are plenty of others on the internet inlcuding AOG ones!

its a blow but not, I sincerely hope, a death blow :)

Dream on, if they have problems with producing the unpainted line. Then what hope is there for a prepainted line, even if its from a Chinese sweatshop!

Well, if they have stopped producing minis, they have solved all their distribution problems!!

Shame the books are not bound very well

Well without having to spread themselves with miniatures as well, they could focus on their 'issues' with their book productions.

Well if they do become a rules / book company and not dabbling in minis that means they have more time / money to dedicate to the printed media. Therefore book quality should be top notch.

I cannot see ACTA being RIP. It is a sad individual which says he will abandon the game because the company stops producing metal minis. I know I will support the game and still play it. Hoping Mongoose will put on more campaign weekends :D

Given their stated desire to do World War 2 Evolution (without models) this does seem likely

But then again SST is supposed to be released later this year....

But it will be much harder to get into, if new players can't buy minis except on ebay. Lack of new players means the game will die.

As much as I know I'm going to get whined at about the comparison, I would point out that this is pretty much what killed B5 Wars, once the minis became harder to get hold of people just stopped playing. Now personally this isn't going to really do me in as I wasnt REALLY planning on buying many more ships what with having quite a variety already but I WAS hoping to see redone minis for some of the Armageddon ships and was rather looking forward to the new Hyperion variants. It just seems a shame to me that mongoose poured all this effort into 3D printing only to pack it in so soon. I know myself and a few others were in particular planning on picking up some of the new Hyperions. Oh well, if Mongoose really werent making any money out of the whole thing then no amount of begging is going to change that I guess :P

well if this is true, ACTA's will be an even harder sell then before. People I have talked to while doing demos want the minis.
