ACTA players in the Bay Area, CA

I will be visiting the US through 27th June to 20th July in California (Saratoga/San Jose and general Bay Area.)

Not trying to show off (will probably be a bit mundane really as I will be be visiting family mostly). I'd quite like to investigate the remote possibility of saying hello to a few forumites or getting involved in any local gaming / conventions if my extended family allow me any time off ;)...anyone know of any such interesting diversions in the Bay Area around that time? Failing that just a good game shop would be nice...

Kind of nice just to say hello to gamers from across the pond on the off-chance but not really expecting much. Just thought I'd say something at least because there was this one year where I made it to GenCon Indy (think it was 2003, the first one in the Indy convention centre) as I was working in the US at the time. I went on a short break, ON MY OWN, when apparently (I found out much later) that a friend of mine from university in the UK also went...doh, never got the chance to meet up!

Oh well...

Hey Hash, it too bad you won't be there in August - ConQuest San Fransisco will be at the end of the month where I hope to demo 2nd edition.

There are some ACTA gamers I know of in Vacaville (about 40 minutes out of the bay area) but sadly their game shop is closing this month (Safe Haven Games).

I don't live in the bay area itself, but I've been known to go down there to game once in a while on the weekend (its about a 2-3 hour drive depending on where in the bay it is) I usually game in Roseville at A-1 comics. They have a good sized game area with plenty of game tables. I'll see if I can dig up some bay area games for you in that time frame - are you bringing a fleet with you?

Sounds great guys - thanks for the info over PMs Chierisophus!

I will be fairly occupied with family stuff when over there but when I know a good date that I can make (and escape from my various nephews, neices, aunts, uncles and cousins ;) ) - I'll definately try to check out the local stores and make contact.

I may even wangle a trip to Sacremento (which seems not far from A1-Comics...) but will have to wait and see on that. Would be very cool to thank Chern in person for his excellent army cards ;)

Hmm...now what fleet to bring with me just in case? Shadows or Centauri? Or possibly even DRAZI! (My suitcase may go over the weight allowance due to the mass of strikehawks I try to bring through customs!)

Just don't put them in hand luggage. I'm still amazed Reaverman managed to get a Bin'Tak, several G'Quan and Ka'Tocs through customs in N. Ireland last year!

i always used to get strange looks when putting a minis case through the scanner going between NI and rest of britain.

Well! if you insist on sporting that centauri hair doo! 8)

lol wish i had enough hair for that :)

personally i wouldnt transport minis in hold luggage anyway unless taking loads considering how much the bags get thrown around its always safer to keep them in hand luggage.

many years ago when I was in the Navy and flying back to the west coast from a trip home in florida, I was asked by airport security to unpack my seabag (carryon luggage). This was long before 9/11 style security, back in 1993 probably, can't remember...anyway, they said they couldn't determing what an object in the bottom of my seabag was. after I unpacked the entire dang thing, they found what they had been looking for - two pewter minis of an "next generation" Enterprise-D and Romulan Warbird I'd picked up in Orlando. I'll never pack that stuff inthe bottom again. :x

Don't bring the cheese (shadows! :P ) but I'll gladly offer up my EA fleet to a battle vs. the Centauri or Drazi...maybe we can all organize a "meet and game" somewhere? and if you can make it to roseville, I'll guarentee you a game  but it sounds like there's more players in the big city (ie bay area) so I'll happily travel down there...just let me know when and where!

try gamekastle in santa clara www.gamekastle.com they have a good selection of stuff and a big space to play. I dont think of anyone playing ACTA. those of us who are interested in it are waiting for the new rules to come out before buying in. there are however a few of us playing victory at sea, and I have a buch of battlefield evo stuff...good luck
