A New Gaim :)

Ahh you gave me a good idea hegemon...

Rather than having Queen ships, the "Queen" works like an Admiral. By default, all Gaim ships are hull 4. A Gaim fleet must always have 1 Queen in its fleet. If the Queen is killed in a campaign, a new one is automatically regrown.

The Queen must always be present to control the fleet. She will increase the PL of a ship by 1, same as an admiral, but she doesn't necessarily have to be on the highest PL ship of the fleet. Instead of the usual admiral abilities, the Queen will have the following:
- Hull increases to 6
- CQ will increase +1 while the Queen is on board
- All ships on the table use the Queen ship's CQ, same as currently
- Same CQ penalty for losing the queen as currently
- VPs for destroying the Queen ship are VPs of the ship's new level (ie 1 level higher than the ship normally is)

How's that? :D

that works for me.

one thing about that burger is it means the gaim, will be disadvantged if they don't take a queen, all other fleets can take a fleet without an admiral and have a chance of winning, if the gaim don't take one and instead have that one or more extra ships depending on PL.

however, just a not well thought out idea,

Demi-queens and queens,

Queens
the Queen may be present to control the fleet. She will increase the PL of a ship by 1, same as an admiral, but she doesn't necessarily have to be on the highest PL ship of the fleet. Instead of the usual admiral abilities, the Queen will have the following:
- Hull increases to 6
- CQ will increase +2 while the Queen is on board
- All ships on the table use the Queen ship's CQ, same as currently
- Same CQ penalty for losing the queen as currently
- VPs for destroying the Queen ship are VPs of the ship's new level (ie 1 level higher than the ship normally is)
- No need to tell the opponent which ship the queen is on

Demi-Queens
Demi-Queen must always be present to control the fleet. Must be on the highest PL ship.
- CQ will increase +1 while the Queen is on board
- All ships on the table use the Queen ship's CQ, same as currently
- Same CQ penalty for losing the queen as currently

Rational behind this is you don't really mind losing ya demi-queen if you have a queen, so have the demi open and saying "Yeah im a big bitch, i'm in command" while the Queen is hidden from danger.

Well you'd have to declare which ship the Queen is on at the start of the battle (ACTA is a full disclosure game), so that wouldn't really work ;)

Gaim must take a Queen, same as current rules. I think demi-queens would be too complicated. KISS!

Maybe also give them one selectable admiral attribute (chosen at birth, can't be swapped per battle). And ban Gaim from taking "normal" admirals since they are all drones rather than individuals.

they would be taking a type of queen, think of the demiqueen it like the current queens while the queen is the queen of queens

Yeah like I said, keep it simple... just have the Queen, and she must be used in every battle. Just the one is enough, demi-queens too complicated especially as the models are the same, your opponent would have to remember which has a queen, which has a demi-queen and which has none...

The more I think about this the more I like it... Gaim would have to choose between putting the Queen on a small ship where she wouldn't cost much, or onto a big ship where she'd be more survivable and her admiral trait might be more used.

Hmm maybe - Gaim can be reletively individual - as I mentioned with Eractics - just put the Hive above all else..........

I like the idea - be a bigger play round for me tonight though............... :)

Well, it simplifies the fleet a lot. You can remove all Queens! Just make a balanced fleet, then add on queens as special rules like admirals.

sorry to double post but I can't remember anywhere that it explicitly says full disclosure.
Rule book page 102, "Before Battle" section:
Once your Priority Level and Fleet Allocation Points for a scenario have been decided, you can start choosing ships from the relevant sections of your fleet list. When choosing ships, you should make sure that you can represent each one properly on the tabletop, whether you are using counters or miniatures.
It's covered by proper representation.

i really dont see that queens are a problem anyway. ben used only 2. and they do give away double VPs which effected richard in his final game on sunday as i believe he lost both queens for 40vps.

Yes, he got jumped from behind by my sneaky Minbari! 8)
Killing the Queens appears to be the best way of winning against them!

I think this would work brilliantly to solve the "Queen" issue with the Gaim. You make the Queen at once rare, unique, and valuable, but a point of weakness, as it is supposed to, for the Gaim fleet. You even make it so people want to stick her/him/it on something they can protect, in a very Gaim-hive-like fashion.
