A New Edition of ACTA is coming...

I noticed when window shopping for FA-scale minis that this was done with the Fleet Action rules by AOG too, so it's not much of a surprise.

I seem to recall Matt saying they were working on getting an exciting licence a while ago? Perhaps this is it.

I doubt it's Starwars, but could be Startrek or Battlestar Galactica. Any other ideas?

Also a new version of ACTA would probably lead on to a B5 suppliment I guess.

Or Traveller CTA

Problem with Galactica is a lack of different races. Star Wars maybe but don't see it. Star Trek - a few out there already, granted not as slick as CTA but a definite smell of been(being) there done that.

I plump for generic or indeed traveller CTA

I am 90% certain I know, but Matt might sue me if i say what. although this is based on mildly old info so could now be incorrect but sounded highly plausible when It filtered through

I think not. At least the license cost would be extremly high, especially Star Trek meaning that all products produced wouldn't be very cheap

Cheap is not required, only profitable, though I admit being cheap helps with that

Paramount's failure to protect the Star Trek IP back in the day means just about anyone can base stuff off it with impunity.

That's how we ended up with Star Fleet Battles and Prime Directive without anyone getting sued.

The original lax licencing of the Star Trek (ToS) Star Fleet Technical Manual allowed Star Fleet Battles to be sublicenced. SFB and propeties based of that can use elements from the original series and the animated series such as ships and alien races but not characters and stories.

These days Paramount protects the IP the same as any other big franchise.

Well ToS is the forthcoming movie, so if the game was Trek, I imagine movie related material would be included.

But TNG/DS9 era is absolutely the more interesting era for space ships and battles.

Not being a fan of startrek, I'm hoping that it isn't that.

Trouble with BSG is that there are only two races involved, and most of the action is fighter rather than ship based, which wouldn't suit ACTA. Any game based on the actual series would be even more limited as you'd only have the two BS to use, and the rest would be civilian ships. Great series, just not suitable for conversion to a wargame.

Farscape would certainly be interesting, it's got a lot of potential. Got a number of major and minor races operating different styles of ships in it, giving plenty of scope on the fleet front, and as it's not currently in production the licence should be relatively cheap.

Farscape would be very cool - as said plenty of races and ships (and models!?) like to see this.

Stargate has already been covered by some very good fan suplements but has good potential

FASA old Renegade Legion would be equally cool (Leviathan - which I am trying to get hold of actaully)

The new Durham Red novels / comics have some good stuff whihc could be adapted.

Trek would be ok I guess but not my first choice and Traveller does nothing for me.

trek or star wars would be my favourites. plenty of ships, plenty of races, although star wars can boil down to just a few fleets.

Star wars would be too expensive, and I would hate to see Mongoose put money into GL's pockets!!!!!!

Star Trek, There is already a good game covering it, complete with figures although originally counter based, so why do it again.

Better to do something else rather than just duplicate another companies product.
