A couple questions on characteristics

A couple things I've been wondering about.

For unaugmented humans, the maximum characteristic is fifteen. How about if you're something other than an unaugmented human?

When rolling characteristics you get to roll 2d6 six times and assign them as you wish.

How about if you're a large or small creature, with 3d6 or 1d6 for one of your attributes? Do you just roll 3d6 for that one attribute and then assign the rest?

Is there an official ruling for this somewhere?

Thanks.

How about "roll the right number of dice and assign as you wish". Really, if you are already assigning rolls freely, 1d is no different than 2d or 3d.

Roll all the 2d6 stats and assign them. Then roll all the 3d6 or 1d6 stats and assign those. Work with each group of stats in order, then move to the next.

Remember that there is a point-buy variant in the rulebook. This isn't about being a tyrant vs being charitable during chargen, it's about treating each player to the same level of choice, or what feels like the same level of choice.

My house rule is that you roll all the chars you need for the character, then either use them, or throw away the whole set and re-roll them.
You have to use the whole set, or loose the whole set, but you can keep rolling sets until you get one you're happy with.

This way players get rounded characters they are happy with - I've rolled stinking sets with no characteristic better than 6, and it wouldn't be much fun to play such a character.
