A comment from the Blog

I was looking back through the Mongoose blog and found this little gem:

I am currently looking at setting up a SST Summit at our offices, a day filled with SST gaming (tournament/campaign), plus a chance to let the most fanatical SST players let us know exactly what they think (!) of the various plans and possibilities we have for the line. Some of them are quite left field (the plans, not the players), and we always value feedback.

I find this interesting and somewhat exciting at the same time. Unfortunately, it runs into the usual problem of being UK only. I know it's a British gaming company, but there are plenty of us "fanatical" players who can't attend something like this. Is there any chance for those of us across the pond to get involved? I know Mongoose has facilities in Ohio and an office in Connecticut. (I've got family in both states, and this would give us an additional excuse to go visit :))

being fanatical, you guys should SWIM.

This is very interesting to hear.
I like it, I haven't looked at the blog in a while. I wallow too long.

This comment from the blog disturbed me when I read it. I took it as, 'We're not so confident in our ideas as we we're before and want to see what you think', meaning further delays as they change things. Later, I read it as, 'We want to find out how we can spin it so you won't be mad.'

I'm a pessimist though.

I'd take it as a very real opportunity for the fans to have direct input to the future of SST. I wouldn't read it as uncertainty so much as a genuine interest in trying to make SST the game it should and will be.

I'm sure some kind of mechanism could be set up for fans in the colonies and elsewhere to participate feedback-wise.

Regards.

Eh. post your suggestions here and let it be a preemptive strike to the meeting and start generating ideas and discussions early.

That's not a bad idea, but I'm more interested in the idea of providing feedback on what they're actually thinking of doing as opposed to throwing a bunch of ideas out that may or may not have already been discussed/implemented/thrown out/etc.

What's the difference? :D If they throw out the ideas, are they game to discuss? I'm sure we'd all make recommendations to them. Might as well start with the ideas from scratch and entertain ourselves while we wait for news. :D

The difference is that this "open house" of sorts is meant for players to see what direction the company is taking for this game. That's not the same as a "What I'd like to see" thread. I know I would love to see what Mongoose is planning, but I'm not British and I can't afford to hop on a transatlantic flight for the weekend. That doesn't make me any less "fanatical" about the game then players on the island.

I'd be inclined to think that getting the opinions of American gamers would be important. Aren't we a rather significant portion of the player base, or am I mistaken?

Taxation without representation all over again...

(Imagines the Boston harbor full of floating plastic minis.)

Matt has posted another blog about what will be disclosed and when. Seems another update that tells us an update is coming, but he does mention "what each of our game lines can expect to see in terms of support throughout 2009."

At least the wheels are turning.
