A Candidate Setting For Legend

Just today, somebody mentioned a possible setting for Legend that I could look into.

I checked out the Wikipedia reference ... and I only just stopped laughing.

I leave it to your imaginations to figure out how we could go about creating a sourcebook for such a setting. I recommend making the sourcebooks out of fireproof materials.

This setting could bring LEGEND to the forefront of the rpg industry...possibly for all the wrong reasons heh heh heh! Maybe have to introduce a Servitude skill for female characters...okay I'm jumping out now before the flaming begins!!!!

For the record, by the way ... Mongoose would probably burn any Gor sourcebook script submissions that came their way. This was merely a piece of tongue in cheek humour on my part.

My currently modified signature notwithstanding, I know nothing of the setting - nor have I any interest in doing any research into it whatsoever.

There's only so much harm an old, weary soul can inflict on itself ...

Heh, I actually read a couple of these books, many years ago. I think I was about 16 at the time and that was a LONG time ago.
It'd be fun to run as a joke session I guess, of course all female players would have to play naked and wear slave collars!

The early Gor series has always held a warm place in my heart. Had the best cover art, and a richly detailed setting...and yes, soft core BDSM. I'd welcome a setting book.

If you like camp, check out one of the movies. Gor and Outlaw of Gor...plenty of scantly clad beefcake and big haired ladies from the 80s...and some absolutely weird dialogue from Oliver Reed and Jack Palance. Mystery Science Theater 3000 did a treatment of the second move...haven't seen it yet though.

Some of the settings were really well described. I seem to remember the nomads being described better than those of Prax, for example. There were also flying nomads which were pretty good as well. The books started to go downhill after Captive of Gor, as they became more focussed on the BDSM/Male Superiority/Female Inferiority parts and not on the Fantasy parts.

As a one-shot, Gor would be a good setting. I am not sure if it could support sourcebooks, though, as the setting does not have that much variation.

I'd agree in large part. The later books would be greatly improved if the authors rambling philosophical digressions had been left on the cutting room floor.

The High Couch of Silistra by Janet Morris is another series I'd recommend for setting ideas, I'm told it was inspired in part by the Gor books. Also having similar themes of sexuality and power...and authored by a more gifted storyteller.
