40k tournament

From what I hear. . . people who played the BF:E tournament at GenCon were MUCH better off than the folks who played in the 40k tournament. . . or what they tried to pass of as one anyway.

Fortunately. . . I had already decided I didn't want to spend a whole day of GenCon playing a 5 round 40k tournament. I can play all the 40k I want here. But the folks who did were mighty upset!

A shame. . because my first 40k tournament ever was at GenCon 2003 and it was a blast! That was the last year they had a good one!

Guess I got off topic. . . anyway. . . glad you enjoyed the BF:E tournament!

Nothing unusual, except that it was a 92 person 40k tournament that was run very smoothly and I played 3 fun games. The guy had a small army of assistants helping him.

The guy I played against in the last round cheated though (possibly unintentionally) but it caused me to go 1-1-1 instead of 2-1. Grrr.

Outside of Adepticon, the next largest tournament I've ever played it was only about half that size (at FlatCon the same year).

FlatCon is coming up BTW for anybody who's into 40k or Fantasy or who wants to run BF:E, SST, or other Mongoose game.

I'm going to be running a bunch of Victory at Sea events plus a mega-scale battleship gaming using modified Fletcher Pratt. (Next year we will have enough ships and giant d6s to run the megascale game as VAS.)

From what Soulmage said, it sounds like it was just insanely large. 92 people in a tourney? Hope no one planned to do anything else while they were there...

Actually, 92 was the number in the GOOD tournament I attended there in 2003. I think this one was much smaller. . . but evidently it didn't matter from what I hear.

A 5 round tournament at GenCon if freakin' ridiculous anyway. . . even if its run well.

Why be sorry I could follow that either. More like rabbling from the mind then clear writing.

Um, Mr. Pot, I think you forgot a 'not' in your clear writing above... He who lives by the pen, dies by the pen :).

But yeah, I agree, the OP was a little unclear. I'm still not sure why I would complain about a 5 round tournament. Surely they mentioned how long the event was going to be in the program? If so, everyone who entered should have done it with full knowledge of how much GenCon time would be consumed.

Now, if there was rampant cheating or collusion, that would be something else. But I still haven't figured out what the complaint actually was...
