2nd Edition

Perhaps this thread could be for what people would like to see arrive as 2e develops over the next couple of years, while the other thread is for the thrashing out of the rulebook itself.

Top of my list in terms of interesting new stuff - the Orieni Empire (both in the 'Wars of the Centauri Republic' era and in the 'modern' day) - along with the Rogolons and Usuuth.

guys what type of weapons /traits do you want included.
For eample i get to playtest 2E because i am E.P's brother so get to try out new stuff ie ION CANNONS they are good.

I would definitely like to see larger ships being a more viable option. As it is, a large ship is almost always defeated by a wolf pack of small ships due to the debilitating effects of critical hits. Just try it for yourself:

- Sharlin+Leshath versus 10 Ka'Tocs
- Bin'Tak+Dag'Kar versus 10 Olympus
- Octurion+Prefect versus 10 Torotha
...etc...

The large ship will almost always lose out unless it has extremely lucky rolls. I'd like to see the table evened out, so that taking large ships is more viable. Because, big ships are fun, and less paperwork :)

I agree that the game should really be about the big ships. Sorry, but I want to play Omegas against Sharlins and G'Quans vs Primuses (sp?). The small ships are cool but as a fleet escort more than anything else.

An idea: Have another roll to see if the critical hit causes a system malfunction or just extra damage. How easily a ship causes a critical hit is determined by what type of ship does the firing. The idea is that big ships have larger guns and do more damage.

So you have all ships broken into 3 classes: Capital Ships, Escort Ships, and Auxiliary Craft. You simply include a ship type in the decsription of the ship. As a general rule:

--fighters are all auxiliary ships
--Patrol, skirmish, and maybe some Raid ships are escort ships.
--Battle, War, and Armageddon ships are all Capital ships

For each hit, roll a d6, like now:

1: bulkhead hit (no dmg)
2-5: solid hit (1 pt dmg)
6: critical hit (1 pt dmg, roll to see what type of critical hit).

For critical hit, you roll a d6 again to see what type of critical hit. What table you roll on is determined by the ship type:

Capitol Ships:
1-3: Hull Damage: +1 pt dmg, nothing else.
4-6: System damage: roll on the critical damage table

Escort Ships:
1-4: Hull Damage: +1 pt dmg, nothing else.
5-6: System damage: roll on the critical damage table

Auxiliary Ships
1-5: Hull Damage: +1 pt dmg, nothing else.
6: System damage: roll on the critical damage table

That would dramatically reduce the effect of criticals in the game overall. Maybe precise weaponry would get a +1 on the second table as well? Or perhaps Beam weapons, as they punch through stuff?

Either way, it'd cut down on the number of critical hits. Now, whereas 1 in 6 hits equals a critical it'd be 1 in 12 for capital ships, 1 in 18 for escort ships, and 1 in 36 for fighters.

just a thought...

I would also like to add in a request for different era fleets for the Minbari, Centari and Narn. I would love to see a fleet list for the Minbari circa 1000ad (the great war), the Narn you could do a fleet list for when they rose against the Centari and kicked them off Homeworld the 1st time, and another fleet for post 2262. The Centari a fleet list for the 1st war with the Narn, and a fleet list again for post 2262.

I always assumed the reason that other races didn't get as many ships as the EA is lack of canon evidence for them, but in all fairness, the are only really two EA capital ships I remember the Omega and the Hyperion, but that might be because the series has long since been off air. And some of the dates for other races ships go quite far back, particularly the minbari, maybe its cause Earth is young and trying to find out what types of ship concepts work for the long haul, or something I dunno. Also I don't ever remember seeing pictures of the Warlock, and sheridans first officer (would probably spell her name wrong) when promoted asked to be placed in command of a warlock, and I think that was before they got artificial gravity, from the minbari, anyways if any have episode pics of the warlock or the name of a JMS book, I would be very appreciative.

Edit: excuse me they got Artificial Gravity on the episode that the first officer was promoted, well seems like the concept for the warlock came lightning fast or it's plans weren't so complete as to be to late to add AG, anyways seems like a long time to wait for a ship.

We saw the Nova, Olympus and Warlock also

She was Susan Ivanova. Episode was "Rising Star"

Yup they either removed the rotating sections sharpish or they (meaning JMS really!) didn't think that through!

Or EA decided that "damn it! Warlock crew can do without gravity for sake of faster ship!"

Maybe they all got velcro slippers and floors!? :P

Let's not forget that the Warlock was first designed using SHADOWTECH. Perhaps they planed to retrofit shadow gravity generators into the ship? The Minbari probably just sped the program up a few months.

SERGE

but with no crew on board why would shadows have gravity generators? :?

Shadows seem to like Minions and they might like the gravity on board ships - see Shadows are not all bad - they give you nice toys to blow yourself - I mean use.............. :D

Shadowships dont have any need for artificial gravity. But thats not to say the shadows dont have the technology! Just because they dont use it in their ships isnt to say they dont have it. I mean we currently have laser technology but most people still use scissors to cut up paper when they need to, not all technologiy is practical to use but who's to say what uses another alien race might have for it? :P
