Just can't believe they are going for stealth 6.

My concern here is not about getting '1's, but about fleet choice. Will it still be possible to pick a 'balanced' fleet and defeat the Minbari. We already had a bit of a 'specialists will kill the Minbari easily' thing going one but regular fleets couldn't touch them without luck. This is important for tourney play and random pick up (ie everyone grab a few ships and then reveal what you brought). If you have to have fighters that can get there, and scouts, and SAs and lots of ships to give you a chance...ugh...

Guess I was hoping they would get rid of the stacking for stealth and give you a variety of ways to reduce stealth so you could pick your fleet more freely. The multiple ship helping each other out in my opinion will make a stealth race actually stronger in some ways given they are upping stealth numbers. Now just to get the lucky dice roll your struggling for now, you have to give up the first shot (ie use a ship that you can afford to have miss) so that the next pass you can get a 50/50.

Mind you that is just how stealth has generally worked out for us around here. Our cagey players have rarely been caught within eight by more than a single ship due to the speed of many minbari and scouts (even our beloved Vree) only work 2/3 of the time. (Scanners to full has worked but rarely did the fighters last for second pass.) So we generally see rolls at stealth reduced one, two at most on the primary target and rarely any reduction on secondary targets. Shadows and drahk excepted, as both have a natural bonus plus common scouts.

Bah...this is just a rant at this point...

Stealth six means you absolutely have to have a reduction or your better off not playing. Right now reductions are range, race, scouts and fighters. If your fighters are slow, forget them, race is specific, scouts work half the time and generally only on one ship in a turn. That leaves range and a number of races are asking for death by plunging into short ranges due to overfly.

The balance that has been hinted at or thought of seem to be if you can roll that initial stealth roll it becomes easier for other ships and possibly a new SA. One bonus just gets us back to current levels of stealth, the other may be okay. I just didn't think the concensus was that stealth was weak, which seems to be the direction hinted at.

only the leshath is stealth 6. but then is is supposed to be the most advanced scout of the primary stealth users. I think this is something that people have asked for a lot.

Was there not some thing if you are under 1" no stealth? I think it was some where in the Fighter rules. Makes still sense if im in an Fighter and there is the target larger like an zeppelin there helps only a Cloaking device and no ECM-Stealth

Personally, I would like to see stealth for the dilgar scout.

Why? Because other races scouts have it? Other races scouts are not as heavily armed. Nor do they benefit from masters of destruction, and for that matter most other races scouts arent redirecting quite as much sheer firepower.

(ps. sorry for using your quote Tankdriver its not you specifically I'm ranting at...)

And whats to say dilgar even HAVE anything resembling stealth.

Im all for new ships and updates but just changing things for the sake of it gets the game nowhere. Frankly the Dilgar are one of the nastier fleets in the game as it stands, the one thing they dont need is IMPROVING.

And the Vorlons dont need a scout either, isnt it enough they already have more firepower than pretty much.... erm ANYONE, WITHOUT giving them force multipliers to make it even better.

It this 'oh those other races get x, y, z my race should have it too attitude that just ends up with every race playing the same with the different paint jobs. Not everyone needs scouts. Not everyone needs Armageddon level ships. The list goes on and on but in nearly every case theres still a legion of fanboys complaining that their race is underpowered because they dont have access to such and such a toy.... AHHHHHHHHH!!!!

(its been a long day ;))

....and breathe.
Have you been at the brass polish again?

But yes, there's no problem with certain ship types being missing from fleet X if they don't fit how that fleet fights. But as noted, unmodified stealth rolls of a 5/6 can seriously mess with a game.

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one - as mentioned on previous thread there ARE, in my opinion, a number of good reasons for them to have a Scout. Oh and I don't play them............... :)

well the ship has to survive within 8". or the scout has to survive. and sharlins pack a nasty punch.

Indeed. Pity the poor frigate that is spotting for battleships :)

although of course this is a way you could distract the sharlin from your big ships by sacrificing a small one.

Vorlon scout question: Are you seriously saying that a starfaring race for over a million years can't build a set of sensors to rival a bunch of monkeys (ie us)?

Back on track. Any news on which fleet lists are finished and which are still being worked on? Or if the information is elsewhere, can you point me in that direction?

Cheers

I suppose that's what the built-in +1 modifier does. They have it inbuilt even to lowliest ships. We need dedicated support vessel for same effect...

Good point!

Of course it means that against a Stealth 6 ship within 8" the Vorlons can only even see the ship 50% of the time? and over 20" they have a one in six chance?

Without mentioning that scouting the battlefield (rerolls for placement and first turn) are something the elude this ancient race? Given that with other races Command structure they are superior in initiative (well I suppose (with Command ships) only the EA, Minbari, ISA, Centauri.............) :(

or not :) mentioned earlier they just keep their +1

Thats what they get for having unmanned ships, or if they are manned, I bet it is with very small crew, maybe a crew of one for the Ancient Vorlon Heavy Cruiser, of course I'm just assuming I could be way off here.

theres only 2 stealth 6 ships in the game so i wouldnt worry about it too much. one is the technomage pinnace, the other is minbari and finally puts their scout in the premier scout role it should have (along with some otehr nice abilities).
