2e chronos?

I havent yet got the fleet book or rulebook, so can someone tell me how the chronos has changed and if it is still the pain in the butt it was to play against.

Thanks,

its still a tough nut to crack, and now that its skirmish, its firepower is down a bit (only 4ad of railgun now) but it isnt the premier ea low-level ship now, mainly cus of the 3rd age atemis, wich i can see being one of the most chosen ships in the fleet (1 word, RAILGUNS)

I love Chronos. They are a bit weak now in terms of damage and such, one good beam hit and they are pretty much toast, but they make fantastic escorts for your battleships, principally because of the interceptors and anti-fighter they have. Provided you stick close to your intended protectee, you can do a pretty good job of keeping them safe.

I used new Chronos in anger for the first time yesterday, I'm sad they are now skirmish, I missed them, once upon a time they could give whitestars a bloody nose. instead the whitestars just laughed at them and killed them :-(

I dont mind em where they are now in all honesty, theyre likely to die to a good beam shot but frankly they always were previously, it just took a bit more beaming (but then you got half as many of them....).

Their firepower has been borught down a fair bit but, again, you can get two ships for the cost of a 1st ed one.

Toughness wise, they havent actually lost alot of hit points, are still hull 6 and have lost only 1 interceptor die, for a skirmish ship theyre exceedingly tough.

The main differences is their firepower isnt quite as 'all round now (their forward and aft pulse cannons are somewhat lessened) but they still have their raildguns and are still in my eyes an excellent ship (and I personally think 2 of them should give a whitestar a damn good run for its money with a little dice luck!)

new chronos lost a couple of AD off its railgun, about half its pulse AD, lost an interceptor and about 3 damage. however as has been stated you now get 2 for the price of the old one so overall they have more firepower, more damage and more interceptors plus give extra init sinks.

I played with a couple of these the other day. I have to say they did remarkably well. I was a bit worried with the reduction, but in the end they pulled it out.

For something described as an escort frigate I am suprised the Chronos does not have the Escort trait. :?

The Chronos is not an escort frigate...

It is called the "Chronos Attack Frigate"...

but...it is an interesting point. the chronos with the escort trait.
how many interceptors have the chronos???...i believe two...yes,two.
not to many and not to less. or the myrmidon with escort trait...

well, after using them this weekend I can fairly say I'm I'mpressed by the survivablity of the chronos. However, its pretty lacking in offensive firepower. 2AD weapons are next to pointless, and slow the game down. roll them together? sorry not against something like drakh or white stars.

Roll. ok, re-roll. OK, dodge. type? hm, bulkhead.

Roll. ok, re-roll. OK, dodge. next?

Roll. ok, re-roll. OK, dodge. type? crit! hm, 1, 1, speed -1

Yer i see your point. But dont you love it when it goes like this?

6 AD no traits: Roll. OK Interceptors: Roll. Hrmm ok 1 die got trough....

And now comes the fun part. Hrm Roll. Hrmm 6 (Yes a crit) Roll 6 (Yes ship goes hurty)

well the railguns having a slightly longer than normal range is great. its just that on this version they're pretty much the main weapon, instead of two that compliment each other.
That being said, I suppose their durability makes them frustrating for enemies that don't want cheap 4AD railguns to hang around for most of the battle...

Hmm . . . an interesting variant for future release, perhaps? Escort variant w/ less AD but more interceptors and the Escort trait? Maybe, in keeping with the upgraded tech of the EA, one that extends the Escort range?
