2300AD, not 2320...

I am very enthusiastic about the 23xxAD project and I am eagerly waiting for any book published in this great universe.

Note that I would even consider buying two main books if :

1 - France's leader in 2300AD+ is not an Emperor. Frankly this is something that is really ridiculous, even if we consider our current "presidemperor" NSark the 1st.

2 - The artwork is (very) different from the current Traveller line which is definitely not up to my taste.

Honestly, a hard science fiction setting in which I can play a French man trying to reverse the power loss process hitting the French arm and France's territories on Earth... in the 24th century.

How could I dream of anything else.

He's not an Emperor in the Napoleonic sense. He was elected Emperor, out of the desire of the French people (through careful psychohistorical manipulation) for a grander vision of France and it's place in the human universe. His background isn't even military, but rather he was the head of an communications conglomerate. Think the charisma of Steve Jobs, the business sense of Bill Gates, the charm of Richard Branson, and the morals of a reef shark.

You are right but I doubt the French people would elect an Emperor, even in the 24th century and even after a careful psychohistorical manipulation. Some of my friends and I think 2300AD is one of the best hard science fiction backgrounds ever written but we all agree on something else, an Emperor leading France is ridiculous. May be because we are French. I am sure the american players would have laughed at the idea of an elected king leading the USA in the 24th century.

Make it a President for life.

I will only buy one main book ! :D

Think a good dollop of Firefly/Serenity (with fewer horses), a whole bunch of original 2300AD, a sprinkling of 2320AD, and a dash of Transhuman Space.

I like the idea of a French Emperor. Besides, it completely ties in with GDW's original parallel vision for its 2300AD setting (Franco-Prussian conflict, imperialist/colonial outlook)

Without the nations being as they are in 2300AD it would just be a less interesting space opera.. an extension of today... when what we like about the setting IS it's little anachronisms.

Just my opinion... but I think we should keep the setting and canon exactly how they are. Just update the visuals in regards to tech etc.

..and i really hope they be more expressive with the design of the book as opposed to MGT. (or use my mock ups on the facebook group below!)

I agree with you Steffworthington, many of the anachronisms are part of the fun. But the idea of a French Emperor is terrible as far as I am concerned, it has something to do with suspension of disbelief. I think that a President for life would be less of a stretch and less difficult to further through a psychohistorical manipulation. I can nonetheless cope with an Emperor, though I will certainly change that in M2300ADU - My 2300AD Universe - but not with an hereditary one (and I don't remember at all if the French Empire is an hereditary one in the 2300AD setting).

All in all, it boils down to preferences and to the fact that whatever the quality of the background there are always a few things that we want/need to change.

Well I would love to see a resource book for 2300 or 2330 or what-ever you want to call it. Really though I think that maybe a few resource books might be worth while.

Well I could see a core history/plot background sorce book, then a source book on the sector star maps, a source book on the aliens like Kaufers and etc, then a source book on the different space ships, then maybe a plot line campaign line resource adventure, plus many others

Nothing I can really comment on. Certainly nothing has been signed. Yet. :)

"Are we there yet?"

Jokes apart, is there anything new on 2300 / 2320 / 2350 AD? - or has the project been scrapped? :?:

Thanks!

If they are having difficulty getting high quality work out the door, then maybe a small increase in capacity for doing that is in order? I say this out of pure selfishness as I want to be able to get the good stuff right away! :D
