20mm (1/72) Chinese PLA Type 99 MBT finally painted

Agis

Mongoose
As already mentioned somewhere here, I received one of the 1st Sands Model Type 99.
Here is the result.

So far the best Sands model I have built. 4 resin pieces (hull, tracks and turret) with metal gun barrel, GPMG and some other gadgets. My kit suffered from very little air bubbles.

Impressive work there, Agis. I'm working on a bunch of these myself, although I've still to decide on which camo pattern to go for. There's a grey and green pattern and a sand and bright green pattern as well as the one you picked. I'll likely try out both on a couple of old T-72s I've got and pick the easiest to paint :)

Incidentally, what green and sand paints did you use for those ?

Green is Armypainter Spray base coat "Army green".
Then Vallejo 821 Beige and Vallejo 862 Black Grey.
Good wash, Tamiya weathering pastels, transfers applied, matt varnish and final edge highlights in white. Hope that helps.
All in all around 40 Minutes.

any chance some one can post a pic of the sanders version next to the mgp one ?

cheers
I presume you are talking about the Sands model? I would but I do not have the MGP one... :(

Neither do I, but the S&S one looks like a different version (there's at least four with differing turret designs). I'll post the dimensions of the S&S one on Sunday if you like.

The S&S Type 99 is 100mm x 45mm and 35mm to the top of the TC's hatch. The turret is 50mm long.

mongoose one is

116mm x 51mm and 35mm to top of tc hatch , turret is 65mm long.

Other than the scale, the Mongoose Type 99 isn't the same version as the S&S one. The S&S model is the first of the reactive armoured versions (Type 99A1 in some sources), the Mongoose model is a simplified version of the later Type 99 (A2 in some sources) with a larger turret which is slightly longer and more streamlined with a larger storage cage, with armour on the outside. There's another version past that (Type 99G) which looks like a cleaned-up version of the A2 (i.e. loses most of the external sensors and hull maintenance hatches etc).

I'll post the WZ551 sizes later in the week, again it's a little different to the Mongoose version (which looks a little squashed lengthwise).

I agree; but it is not making much of a difference as far as the MC army list is concerned...
I'll field them anyway...

Thanks for that! I really would like to see some comparison shots. I myself look for models that look close to the evolution miniatures as I have a ton of them! I have 3 full armies of them. I really don't need much more but I would like to see some of the units not availiable yet that are listed in the book.

Back sooner han I expected :)

The S&S WZ551 is 90mm x 35mm x 30mm high, not counting the turret.

Agis, I agree that it doesn't matter in the slightest which version the model is as far as the game goes. No reason someone couldn't use a mix for that matter, just thought I'd better explain why they looked different.

Oh - I liked the explanation. :) Helpful to me, but I feared that some rivet counter might immediately ask, can I use it then in MC?
