For 15 quid I'd snap that up without even thinking about it. 20 quid and I'd think about it for a little while. For me, this sort of format, boxed or not, is the way to go with RPGs. Keep them cheap and put them on the shelf with the novels that inspire them. Just need to get the content...

    Mongoose Redundancies

I would certainly agree that it's not a helpful response. Regards Robin

    Mongoose Redundancies

I hope that most fans were more concerned about those who'd lost their jobs than about Mongoose's publishing schedule. Regards Robin

    Slaine Reborn?

Idea four If it's not a big seller, keep it as simple as possible and as cheap as possible. A cheap game with a free campaign might at least create some casual, speculative purchases and give the setting some more exposure (I'm just being hopeful, of course; you're the expert here, and probably...

    SP #71 is beautiful

I've not found time to read it properly yet, but I was just quickly scanning through for the purposes of this post. One thing that struck me is that it probably needed to be longer or a multi-part piece to allow it room for detail. I'll give you a couple of examples. In the Street of Silver bit...

    SP #71 is beautiful

I know and greatly appreciate that S&P is entirely free and always on time, but.... Changing back to portrait format seems a mistake for something that's largely going to be read on screen. Some of the borders and flashes and boxes (p.2 and 4, for example) are fussy and irritating, drawing...

    Eddings & Feist

Heh, spot on, as far as I remember. Mind you, I didn't read the final book of the Mallorean until years later, and I still found the characters pleasant company. Both series can easily be summed up as a group of quite likeable people go for a very long walk in the countryside. Regards Robin

Slow down! I want to see the countryside.

Oh yes, it's my current bedtime reading! And their list of forthcoming titles is looking busier, too, so I'm very happy. I think so too, and I think it's served the company well. Unfortunately, I'm personally less inclined to buy much. Regards Robin

Slow down! I want to see the countryside.

I agree with you. On the other hand, Mongoose is incredibly successful and has many fans. For my money, the company producing the best gaming products available is Pagan Publishing. However, since 1991 it's produced about a dozen books of consequence. A few years ago, one was left wondering...

    Strontium Dog v Rogue Trooper

Sadly, I really dislike them. Abnett can write some good tales, but his Durham Red stuff is just a wholesale rejection of everything that made the character and her setting interesting in the first place. It was a completely different story that didn't need Red in order to tell it. Regards Robin

    Strontium Dog v Rogue Trooper

Sternhammer died, in the comic, in 1986. Alpha died a few years later in 1990. Several follow-up series were produced featuring characters left over from the final Alpha story and later the Gronk. These had a mixed reception. Initially these stories were written by Garth Ennis. He was followed...

Is Mongoose leaving the miniatures business?

I'm not a wargamer or a miniatures collector, so I have miminal interest in this. I also know precisely sod all about printing and publishing. However... Is it (a) appealing to gamers/collectors and (b) feasible to print good old fashioned card counters with pretty pictures on them to use in...

    Texas City

Preacher Cain featured in a series called Missionary Man. It began in the Megazine, went into the 2000AD and finally concluded back in the Megazine. There was also a Dredd team-up in an annual, but it wasn't very good. Follow the link below and click on the 'Thrill' links in the box on right...

Conan 2nd Edition - quality issues

From what I remember from similar conversations, it's not just about printing costs. Artists get paid more for colour than for black and white, so that's a factor as well. Back and white is fine for me, as long as it's strong black text on clear white background. The same goes for art - give me...

Something to tell the 2000AD folks

Actually, the third volume is out, too! Should be about five in total, I think. Regards Robin
