I'm a bit thick-headed about the rules for GEG, but how does it exactly work? Say, a ship attacks with 5 AD, hits with 3 (all solid hits) and inflicts 3 damage and crew, does the GEG then deducts 1 so it would be a total of 2 damage and crew? Thanks!

Does anyone use patrol level ships on a regular basis? It seems that they are only useful as rank and file ships on lower priority levels or fodder in general. Is it a good idea to forego patrol ships in favor of the more durable skirmish level ships? Thanks!
