If you are as old a gamer as you say you are, then you would realize that as a miniatures game, this is not expensive. (Hint, you should know it's a miniature game by it being listed in the "Miniatures" category.)
You are paying for several things when you buy the rulebook:
The license they...
I guess "knocked out" was a poor choice of words on my part. In NA, ships can only take a number of hits on their shields equal to their shield rating before taking hits to the hull. In my group, we call it "knocking out the shields" when a ship has sustained it's maximum number of shield hits...
I made these for NA, but I suppose you might use them in SF too. I hosted them on my blog: http://www.alaskavalleygamersclub.blogspot.com/2013/02/shield-hit-markers-for-starship.html
I plan on making a jump gate later with what I learned, I'll post it here if I get around to it. Use this...

Thanks! Eventually, I might try to use it to calculate a points-buy system of some sort to bring it in-line with the other fleets as much as possible. Ideally, it would make custom fleets just slightly more expensive than standard fleets to prevent abuse, but allow for players to adapt whatever...

These rules are not designed for balance. They are designed to give players a way to have fun and memorable games, and to be able to...
FASA 2.0? What is that? I only know of a FASA that had been sold multiple times to different people, and are long gone... the guys who made Battletech, right?
Or any way to reduce the cost? 7 dollars for a magazine (in pdf form) is a bit over the top. I don't even subscribe to printed magazines for that much.
