    Advancement in Traveller?

My tendency is to look at situations in the game story, most especially what the players have their characters spend their time doing. For example, in one game a good while ago, the group had their first firefight. It turned out that one of the characters, a scholar, had no gun combat skill...

Capacitors vs. Hydrogen Dump in Ship Design

Actually, Rikki, its far simpler. I simply erase jump fuel, and write in capacitors. The only fiddly bit is remembering that a small bit of the fuel is for the manuever drives/power plant.

Capacitors vs. Hydrogen Dump in Ship Design

Yeah, but in general the point of the exercise is to be able to use OTU ship designs pretty much as is, but use energy storage in the form of some kind of capacitor/battery system, rather then hydrogen tanks, to support jumping. Or at least that's what my point was, obviously your mileage may...

Capacitors vs. Hydrogen Dump in Ship Design

That's an interesting thought. You couldn't just make such a tremendous amount of energy disappear...the only way to actually dump the charge in the capacitors would be to run it through the jump engines and the jump grid. Which, assuming you could do it without frying something, or actually...

Capacitors vs. Hydrogen Dump in Ship Design

That's some interesting information. I guess I'm thinking that it takes a truly ginormous (technical term) amount of energy to move a ship into jump space, and I'd really like the rules on recharging to reflect that. When I write this up more formally, I'll make very clear that the capacitors...

Capacitors vs. Hydrogen Dump in Ship Design

Yeah, I got the Jump Grid idea from some older MT material, though now that I look for it in the T5 playtest stuff I have, I may have been referencing that in my mind. In the setup I'm working on, the Jump grid sustains the jump bubble, or jump field, whatever, that keeps the ship in jumps...

Capacitors vs. Hydrogen Dump in Ship Design

Another great point. I think also once you'd lost half your hull points, jump would be pretty much impossible/unsurviveable.

Capacitors vs. Hydrogen Dump in Ship Design

That's a good point. On the other hand, uncharged capacitors probably make reasonably good impromptu armor for soaking damage. That leads to some interesting choices tactically. Do you keep your charge, and try to jump away, or do you dump and fight? That might also mean that only orbital...

Capacitors vs. Hydrogen Dump in Ship Design

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I wanted to get some comment on something I'm working on as part of the tech framework for my own non-OTU setting. As some of you may know, one of my primary criteria for designing stuff is the ability to use as much published material as possible...

    Yaskoydray LIED !

Grandfather doesn't exist, not as a living being. He instead is the last remaining part of a supercomputer network established by one of the races of true ancients, to watch over their sadly benighted kinfolk.. The Droyne were indeed among the races of ancients, as were the Hivers. Both are...

    Some Gun mods for discussion/comment

Not bad...I do miss Megatraveller, which of course was derived from AHL/Striker, in that regard. I felt it made a very clean system. Maybe I'll have to get the MT CD from Far Future, and start tinkering a bit, if Central Supply Catalogue leaves me grumpy, lol. Still, though, given the...

I actually did mean just +1, for the damage, though I was very tempted to make it +1 per 2d6 base damage. The reason I didn't was that I wanted to avoid going the way of Gurps where you end up with a need to either convert additions back into dice, or have weapons doing things like 3d6+6...

    Preference: OTU or Original Setting?

    I second all of this.

    Some Gun mods for discussion/comment

Gun Notes Just a few of the house rules I've been thinking of adding to my (MTU) Trav game. The basic goal was to give a bit more variety, and add a few fiddly bits so that people can personalize their guns a little. Ideally without making the list of weapons the game provides irrelevant. The...

    Universe of Babylon 5 weapons

Auto 4 is probably a safe bet, generally speaking. Maybe 6 for those Centauri guns the imperial guards used to wax Morden's shadow buddies.
