I think the layout of the new corebook looks more like the softcover supplements than the old corebook did. Perhaps we should have bitched sooner. For the record: I am colourblind.
You were not talking about 1st edition, there is no point buy system in 1e. You were talking about your own point buy system which you used with 1st edition AND you can still use it if you want to!
BUT the official Mongoose point buy system sucks big time compared to rolling the dice. Yours...
If the cost per stat is as follows:
9 1
10 2
11 3
12 4
13 5
14 6
15 8
16 10
17 12
18 14
then one most compute the average point value of the stat, not the point value of the average stat. The latter is 5.5 (average of 13 and 14), the former is 6.5, for a heroic (or epic?) point total of 39.
I played (Cimmerian) Barbarian with great cleave to level 13, and my record killrate in one round was 5 monster apes, 6 hd each. So I don't see any problem.
Perhaps, if you want a house rule to limit total number of attacks in one round to level + dex bonus.

Unless you are using a warsword from horseback it can only finesse when used twohanded, and then it would too do more damage due to being used twohanded.

Off course, excepting the Lorica Musculata. I thought they were made of bronze, however, some people insist that the romans made them from leather. The reproductions made of steel...
Yes, the greeks wore their plate without mail, and the romans used either plate or mail. The greeks and romans made their plates of bronze, this because with the current metallurgical skills bronze made better plates than steel. (Or iron, if you prefer to call the steel of the ancients for iron...
As always, my opinion:
As an example, the Bossonian Bow scales very well with strength. You may buy them with increased strength and thus get strength bonus to damage and armour piercing. I think the bows are powerful enough as they are. The crossbows, on the other hand, should have 7 or more...
